just got back from hutchy's place he's rigging a phantom 28 out with twin merc 200 xs's,i think he said it is or used to be called agitator.

That is 'BRUT', Pete and Jan Armstrongs boat. and it's the boat your motor came from (when it was Agitator)

The red 'BRUT' boat was built for the 1984 round britain event, it then ran as a class II boat for a while, it had triple 175 mercs and was pretty heavilly built.
I think the yellow boat replaced it in 1986, this was a very lightweight Aramat construction, and originaly had triple 2.4 EFI's

In about 1989, he had another 28 built, this time for National Production class (cruiser class) with twin 200's, This was also named 'BRUT'. Unlike the two previous boats, this one had a full cabin and full depth cockpit, where as the others had a raised cockpit floor and little more room that a ski boat.
The white boat set the speed record for class in about '93 at 71.8mph.

Peter kept the yellow boat, and the white boat until about '97 when Rory & Debbie bought the yellow boat, and re-named it 'Agitator'

The white boat was sold to a fella in '98, who took it out to Spain, then Chris Dodge bought it a couple of years ago, and now intends to bring it back to the UK.

enuf bollix for ya?

And finally, it all slips back into place!

That'll be the 28 i chatted to him about on the dog the other week then!

and speaking of phantom websites!!!!! :drain:

That's impossible. They must have been cheating.

Oh, alright, they weren't cheating but it just wasn't fair that a Phantom could be faster than our Velocity.

Both speed records became insignificant in 1997 anyway  :D

when is it you're off to see Mom?

Now that's cold.

Jan 6th off to Long Island. Will only be there for a week but if anyone wants any info from some of the boat or engine builders there I'll see what I can do.

Wasn't taken that way at all. "That's cold" was a popular saying amongst musicians in the 80's.

I've been here for 17 years and I still forget sometimes that people have no idea what I'm talking about when I fall into US vernacular.

Good speed though. Remember Bournemouth 96 between the piers when Mike Sweeting set the record on the Saturday (until Mark Pascoe at the drivers meeting wanted to go out the next morning in CBIII's Skater. You guys went out also and were faster than Mike the following day. The really irritating thing was that I had to seem even handed as I was the Event Director and had to allow it to happen!

Yes, I remember Pete re-named both 28's for the last event he did, the yellow 'BRUT' became 'Amarillo', and the white one became 'Spalding'

Sorry Jonny,

purely out of intersest, other than the fact that they were O/bs and the obvious lay-up differences. Did the earlier bunch of 28's differ from yours in any other fundamental way?

Yeah, when moulding them as an OB boat, they put a plant in the mould to increase the transom angle by a few degrees, and shampherd the second spray rail 'out' off as it reaches the transom.

The deck got an update in the early 90's, benifiting from non slip along the king plank, and FWD outer deck areas, an area half way down the deck is moulded flat to accept the hatch, and it has an anchor locker right up the sharp end.

oh, and the dashboard changed, getting a door, and instrument pod on the st/bd side.

Ok, I assume the spray rail being led out would decrease the amount of lift aft when at speed?......becasause Ob's are lighter?......but increaseing transom angle would tend to position the boaty nose-down when planning would it not? Or have i got this all tits up?

Just compared pics of Brut to yours.......Brut was old stylie then?

Actualy, the rail shamphered up to transom, in other words, if you viewed the boat from behind, looking down at the deadrise, you wouldn't see the spray rail in question. I was done for very secret reasons.

Yes, BRUT was old deck style. only 4 genuine P28's have the later deck, 2 of those went to Greece.

In the pic that Ben posted, you can just see Alan Webbs red Flipper/Yamaha 200 bottom left. (CC will know who I mean.)

And the Hunton 28 XRS 'ONYX', on which I was working that day, and managed to drop a valve collet in the drink, right there where that pic was taken :dizzy:

think i got it! so you mean that they were shamphered flat.......in a similar fashion to how the central padded area looks on most phantoms?

the way you first described it, i thought they actually curved away from the centreline!!

Now stop being technical Chaos! its not becomming of you:)
