On later phantoms do the chines go right to the back of the hull rather than tale off and leave a pad?? If so why?

I'm gonna assume that when you say 'chines' you're actually refering to the inner most spray rail, that on earlier boats stopped about 3 or4 feet short of the transom. (the chine is actually the outer most rail where the bottom meets the side of the boat)

The later style has a kind of pad keel with decreased deadrise as a continuation of those centre spray rails, which gives greater lift and higher speeds.

Ah right! thanx johnson!

Strangely enough, the way that Progression hull is done, is pretty much the opposite of 'the norm', usually the deadrise is shallower along the centreline and steeper toward the chine when that idea is used.

It does appear to have a totaly flat pad keel though.

My first thoughts on having a steeper deadrise toward the centreline and that pad keel sticking down are, that if you were unfortunate enough to get it sidewayz, it would snatch and do a lovely 'high side' giving you a quick involuntary 'exit stage left' manouver.

But then I aint a designer, so I'd ignore that comment.
