Actually, the greasy little thieving bastards came over to my boat asking questions about it, I was as unhelpfull as I could be without a straight '**** off'.

Whats sort of quentions were they asking? Build questions etc?

just wanted to know what the motors were, what power, how fast etc, etc, did I have any mould release wax handy, you know the sorta stuff.

they wouldn't need to know about build, coz they do it better than Phantom ever did.

Starting fights in Cowes is far from 'adult' and will fix nothing, they've without any doubt read these pages, and know what I, and a few others think, but will it make the slightest bit of difference to their actions, will it f*ck!

They will continue making a living from selling Steves designs/work, claiming it to be theirs, or vastly improved, because that's what they do! And all I can do, is try to stop any more British boat enthusiasts lining the wankers pockets by letting it be known what happened.

And for your information, It does upset me when any designer suffers at the hands of these type of people, but how many crusades can I fight? Steve Baker is my friend, i'm passionate about his boats, I have enough on my plate.

So Bren, what good do you think it would have done to 'confront' them in Cowes?

Actually, you've missed out an apostrophe.... its wankers'.....:well:

Guess I must know a different Steve Curtis.

In the case of the “greasy little thieving bastards” I would agree with Jon. I wonder though where ‘evolution’ takes over from copying.

I remember years ago Ray Stapley accusing Cougar Marine and others of copying his designs, but when you look at a Stapley Cat its pretty similar to a 1960’s US circuit boat.

If for argument sake I wanted to run a mono in class 3, I would definitely want wings – Am I asking my builder to copy Ocke?

When Lee Iacocca was brought in many years ago to turn round the Ford Motor Company, he asked his people to build a Fiat 127, which became the Fiesta….

I can go with all that, but had cougar rolled one of stapelys boats over, waxed it up, and pulled a mould off it, then started selling them, that would be copying, right? not 'evolving'.

Taking a lead from someones idea is one thing, a mechanical 'copy' is another thing all together.
