What is it with folks associated with boatin' industries?... I can only put it down to solvent abuse/alcohol intolerance...

Actually.. yer right.. it does look a little pretentious.. and is a complete load of ol' bollocks. What it should say is
"one of us spends all day, every day on the water in all weathers and knows boats...the other is a bald headed ol' tosser who knows feck' all, but will kick the crap out of me if I don't include him"....
...but that wouldn't instill a sense of confidence in potential customers, now would it? Call it "artistic licence...."
