What engines have you got in leviathan? Im guessing the arent Yanmar as i have got some negative vibes from you about them before, what kind of usage (load, hours, throttle (i can probably guess that one )do you run them at?) one of these days i will get my ass in gear and get you guys some pics of our low performance boats out here.

Just spent half an hour lookin for my camera and then remembered it was in my office, so i went to get it an there was a tarantula who had decided that he liked it more than me sitting on top of it any way just checked the picks and this is a suzi 250 piston which didnt like life very much, the block was surprisingly undamadged though, i have more pics but no broadband so i only post the better ones.
hope the pic works!

Rama,
I have a pair of GM 6.5 Litre V8 diesels driving through Mercruiser Bravo1 drives.

They're basically the engines used in the old 6.5 Turbo D Blazer, and the Hummer.

They have lower compression than the Automotive units tho' (18:1 instead of 21.3:1) are turbo charged and intercooled.

They make about 325hp a piece, max RPM is supposed to be 3600, but I'm over-revving slightly when maxed out to about 3800. (this makes getting on plane a lot easier, due to the high gearing, 1.36:1 + 30.5" pitch props).

The boat doesn't run all that nicely at lower speeds coz the pig iron in the back weighs over a ton, and until you're driving fairly hard it wants to porpois all the time, so cruising speed tends to be >55mph, usualy bang on 60 if the sea isn't too big. This equates to about 3200rpm, and I would say it's covered the majority of it's life so far at this speed/rpm or greater (190 odd hours so far)

That Suzi piston is a piece of art!!

What kind of reliability/longevity do you get/expect to get from them motors? only asking cause i have comercial boats out here and am always interested in engine life.
What is your argument against yanmar? i have a boat less than a year old with a pair of 200/s in it 2000 hours and only had to do impellers, belts, oil and filters and one stop relay!
any coments would be interesting
Rama

I know we blow tem all the time with the 350 & 315 yanmars too much tourqe!!!!!
