To be honest, I think in that sequence, it's just a case of loads of spray, with possibly the boat being in a trough from the cameras point of view, so all looks more severe than it was.

Pascoe did a proper, full on stuff in his V-24, which was caught by the camera, here's a couple of pics of it, showing the mid 'submarine' moment, and subsequent recovery:

I think I agree - it looks like a big 'splash', bet it was a bit borderline though - thats V16, they're members here as Team16 and I'm sure they could answer.

Knowing both crews in the above pictures niether of them would've backed off whilst under.
I know pascoe's navigator only opened his mouth to swap an inhailer for the diving reg in that race.

V-16's motto for rough race's is "if it snap's...it snap's , just get another one"

with that in mind plus being a bloody good driver he is always well up front.

I should have photo's tomorrow of us (V69) submarining. Taken by a photographer on a boat, he is sending me the proofs in the mail.

Accordign to what I saw on his camera Sunday, our canopy went completely under.

I have no doubt that V16 went under, and that is is not a trick of the wave.

In our case the water over the screen went green then dark! We also lost our GPS and Radio at that point.

The air vents on the side of the V24 dump the seawater directly onto the battery. Salt water and electricity dont mix well. The engine continued proberbly due to it supplying its own electrics.

I will build some sort of protective cover/battery box for the battery before the next race, as well as a protective cover for the trim switch 'stuff' which sits directly under the other side vent, and gets water dumpped on it as well!
