Rule 18...a Sailing vessel must give way to ... vessel restricted in manoeuvreability,...
Does this mean a vessel under sail should give way to a sportsboat towing a waterskier?

Your opinions please.

We had this very situation in the Sound a couple of days ago (I gave way; as I always do to anything when I am towing a skier. The possible consequences of 'pushing the point' being too 'final' to risk + maybe I should give way?)

You're not really restricted maneoverability though are you - you can still turn left and right pretty quick, stop, reverse etc. "Restricted maneoverability" IMHO is for vessels that would be unable to turn away from a collision course themselves. This could include dredgers, vessels restricted by draught, large ships, fishing trawlers, etc.

The one that does occasionally amuse me though is yachts that are motor sailing - they then don't have right of way any more but think (hope?) no one notices they're motoring under power with the sails up. Been guilty of that myself on occasion :bolt:

Are you an ex Sailor then Matt?

Yeh, spent far too much of my childhood wallowing along on my parents boat at 5 knots, then raced Laser 4000's for a couple of years before deciding it's all a bit too sedate for me.

matt,

running lavtha, an earthquake, a 135mph chase in a classic GTO whilst listening to AC DC @ 300db............would likely be too sedate for you!

What is lavtha? You are right though, 135mph would be a bit sedate - the ultima is quicker than that.

168Mph A31 Yesterday..................................:D

On!!!
Kawafuckinsaki ZX9R, Really peters off above 170 then it's a slow haul up to 184. never had the balls to go past that, all becomes a blur and the ring puckers up!!!!

I really fancy getting another bike - probably something a bit smaller than a zx9r though - gotta watch the MPG ya know. :D

Don't make me fkkn laugh!.....what motors do you run in your boat?

I don't run em though do I. I just look at em slowly gathering dust in the garage.

Yeh, I nearly said that, but since my garage is pretty warm and dry, they're not getting particularly rustier, unlike your nob.
