Hi there, I'm about to get a P21 back into the water. Need to decide whst steering system will fit best to the boat and the 2.4 Merc.
What remains from the former owner is a massive 90ccm hydraulic steering helm  and the fittings that indicate that a system wit two rams was installed, before.
Anybody there to get me some details how this usually looks like?
This helm looks big enough for a commercial craft!
So I'm open to your suggestions.
What do you use? Front mout cylinder?
Saw a few really cool looking side mount rams with wingplates in the web! How about those?
Or back to cable?

Have a :drink: on this ugly friday evening and get me some feedback. Need to get this going.

Cheers.

Btw. anyone knows the boat's history?

Nice boat

I like the sea star system i fitted the hydro system with a front mount ram i find it to be so much better then the cables for my 275

I paid £600 for my complete system including high capacity helm steering wheel racing hoses and ram From Barnet Marine

fitted seastar on the phantom and its on the backdraft,i like it

oh and the side rams are the dogs but will set you back a few grand

There is a cheaper option. Mayfair I think. Speak to Scott hodges or pete Berrow.

Dont know about your helm but if you want to buy a complete system for less than a grand go for Seastar. If you wanna run over 60mph make sure you get the Pro setup with the 1500psi helm and kevlar hoses.

Is that what you got Taz, £600 is a good price.

Yeah the pro version i have its proper nice

I had to have it because of the power ratings

Took only 2 hours to install

Thanks for you replies. :brain:
So Seastar is the way to go.

What u think about this:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/e...&item=4504773772&rd=1&sspagename=STRK:MEWA:IT

But $700 is a pretty painful amount.

Looks good if your helm will drive it. $700 is cheap for that!!! With shipping that should be around £500, cheaper if you get away with not paying the import duty, which you quite often do on ebay items. Cheaper than a new seastar pro setup.

One thing to note is you need to know if its for a 20" offshore or normal midsection or a 15" midsection. The 20" offshore midsection has more setback in the swivel bracket than the normal one and the 15" has 2" more setback than the 20" offshore. You would need the correct wing plate for your midsection. Which one do you have?

If you not sure post some pics of the midsection and helm and someone may be able to tell you.
