j/f were did you get your motors from, would this be good for a repower with your motors{ new one's } the drives would be ok may be have to change the g/box ratio i suspect. with 650 hp must do 60 - 65 mph

To buy my motors complete from Peninsular, they're about 9k/motor (without drives), then you've gotta get em home, pay duty n VAT etc. would end up a dear boat. (plus, IMHO it's pig ugly)

I would guess at low 60's

They weren't built by Aronow, he was dead by the time 'Aronow Powerboats' came about.

it was his son/wife who owned that firm.

That's exactly right. The Aronow Powerboats were not built by Don. I'm not sure if he was even involved with the design prior to his death. I would doubt it because the lines are a huge departure from his usual straight lines and hardcore look.

The Aronow is not a particularly good seller on the used market here in the states.

Magic Powerboats aquired the molds years ago and still build them under the name of "Magic Sorcerer 34".

I definately need to do some homework. I'm at a loss when I look at your boats. I don't have a clue as to what I'm looking it. If it were a Cougar, which made it big in the states, no problem. Most of the rest of your boats are well, foreign to me.

Well my sorcerer was designed in the late sixties but only built last year, we use them for kids to do offshore racing in, yes offshore approx half mile.

Must amit when you do a search for sorcerer on yahoo your one is always on the top of the list and what a craft it is, though I won't be letting my 9 year old any whre near that one but he does race ours and got 2nd in the UK national championship this year.

It would have been our third in a row.

by giving John Burden a 10 min penalty, which he shouldn't have, moved all the placings about, and changed all three placings in the Nationals.

Not to mention robbing John Burden of his only ever win!

We offer nothing over here for kids in offshore.

We're only in our 2nd year of it, I'll see what I can do on the photo front though have to shrink a few down.

We run 20hp Mercury 2strokes and can average 25mph in a slight sea, not bad with 2 on board abd 25 litres of fuel......

You could send some kids over next June, we're having an international event in Weymouth, Dorset and anyone from the USA would be welcome in the age range of 8-16 years old.

That's right of course, I had almost forgotten. Was the OOD TL?

I think I was too worried about how I would tell Tony Dowley that I had blown up his brand new race boat to notice anything else going on.

Had the penalty not been wrongly given to john Burden (and us), even tho we retired from that race with a blown off Bow tank hose we would have finished the season in a dead heat with Roger Severy, the deciding factor then would have been, who had had the higher max average speed from that season, which was us.

Still, hey ho.


Some time after the event, and much complaining by us, "Team Tanglefoot", and JB, the Royal Motor Yacht Club (organisers of the race) had a meeting about the penalty, they agreed they were wrong to give the penalty, and that "lessons had been learned", but said they couldn't change the results now!!!! even tho' it affected all three places in the national championship!

Until that point, both TD and myself were members of the RMYC, I didn't bother to renew my membership, as it didn't appear to me any good!

Dunno about the 32', but the 45' was drawn up, and someways into plug build I think, when Mr Aronow went to the great boatbuilders in the sky.

The bit I liked was being told by the ORDA officials that they knew what had happened, agreed it was all wrong, but weren't prepared to do anything about it!!! Didn't renew my membership after that.

I'd always thought Tony Lewis was an alright kind of guy up until then, but I guess he just wasn't man enough to admit he was wrong!

I resigned from the RMYC this year, I found out I was no longer the youngest member!!!!!

It's noteworthy that ORDA stands for 'Offshore Racing Drivers Association'.

On that occasion, they didn't do much representation of the drivers (us). but then the heads of ORDA, were on the RMYC commitee!
