Hi Guys,

thanks a lot for starting the discussion about my P20 setup problems.
Thanks also to sinkunit0 to bring me to boatmad.com

Now to my problem: heavy chinewalking from 65mph on, it is not able to run faster...

Current Setup: bow tank with 37gallon; 12' setback plus 4' lift; modified 200HP Yamaha with 20' middsection; mounted on the middle of the transom; battery is on most back right side; prop is an Balistic 4blade 23P

Searching for: stabillity and top speed

technical support is welcome :)

Ive got a p 20 engine mounted in middle running a merc 260 and i dont get any chine walking suggest u try a different prop. mine runs anywhere between 3" below to 1" abouve still the same on handleing.

12" (300mm)of setback is pretty substantial, I would imagine this will exagerate any handling problems, as having a big motor like that hanging that far off the transom will give you the 'Tail wagging the dog, instead of the dog wagging the tail'.

Also, what top speed are you getting currently?

when you say 4" lift, we need a more accurate account of where the motor is positioned, height wise.

As you move the motor back, you need to move it 'up' by almost half the setback distance (ie, 12" back, 6" up) to maintain the same motor height relative to the water.

It isn't really the ideal hull design for what you're trying to do, it was designed for offshore use, so everthing will be a compromise.

thanks for your first answers...

in the P20 video you can see the boat was equipt with an 12" steel setback bracket mounted 4,3" to the right on transom.
The speed was 65mph. I add an nosecone and a Land%Sea lift and increase speed to 70mph. (visible in vid and gps verified)

After fully restauration I put the engine to the midle of transom
and add hydrualic steering....now 70mph are fare away due to chinewalking.... :-(

the engine high is keel in middle between cavitation plate and gearhousing, I tryed it higher but it was worst...

any more ideas :)

Whos a blind feker that couldn't read................

Have you checked for play in your recently installed hydraulic steering? It may need bleeding again.

Check for play in the engine mid section. The bushes may be worn out.

Also try some different props. I had a similar problem with my P20, I could only just hold on to it at about 67mph but I would be fighting the chine walk, I couldnt hold my foot flat out on the throttle for more than a few seconds and I couldnt trim out very far. I changed the prop and now I can drive it flat out, trim it right out and its nice and steady.

I tried a 3blade Chopper and it was worst, I tried a 25" 4blade with rund blades it was not better, I tried a HighFive but ist was 21" but rev. stoped me at 60mph...
What kind of prop you are using?

I use solid mounts in my midsection and have still 3mm steering play (measured on steering zylinder)

Hi BluFin,

I must say sorry to you...
After your question about my prop I edit my thread and add the prop info.
So I must say you're able to read.. :)

So, do you still have 300mm of set back?
