Had a shock today when given the price of 6 bolts from the Suzuki dealer to Bolt my 200HP EFI to my transom.

I know why they are special

M12 Fine thread in High Tensile Stainless.

I'm considering using Normal High tensile Fine thread M12 Bolts from an engineering supplier and keeping the heads etc coated in grease or silicone

Another problem arose because my 15mm thick jack plate means I need longer than standard bolts in the first Place.

Should I go with the Non-stainless High Tensile bolts and change them each year?

I'm assured the original equipment bolts are not just any old stainless, which I can understand.
If you've ever ignored the good advise and used Stainless bolts on a Motorcycle brake Caliper you'll know how easy normal Stainless bolts will shear off.

Go with the HT and make sure the holes are full of silicon as well as bolt and you wont ever have to change them.

Going to go with the steel High Tensile M12's with a fine thread.

I can buy them locally at a reasonable price, in various lengths, and they'll be stronger than stainless.

If the heads go rusty they will blend in and look as tatty as the rest of the boat.

Cut them neat, use stainless nylocs and the water wont get in.
