A quick update, the engine and box are now one custom made shaft disc brake and shatter blanket are now in place.
I will be running the engine up to test out the overspeed systems then its time to fit it in the boat I have att some images of the engine+box package

Hi Jason,
Looks awsome - any chance of some more photos of how you have set the disk brake assy up & gearbox - will you manually control idle speed?

What turbine are your using and are you running Diesel is so do you need to modify any of the fueling system to cope.

I just really turbines - still vagely remember mid 70's Tommy Sopwith's Miss Embassy and a Tiger Shark which had a turbine. The Tiger Shark I remember because it went bang once when starting complete with flame.

'Miss Embassy' has to be the uglyest fkkn boat ever made! ..them bat wings are fugly.

(before any fkkr points it out, I do know why they're on it, but it's still butt ugly)

So why are they on there then?
 
To get 'clean' air into the turbine...bit like the lid over a jet ski motor, it has to separate any water out before it gets to the intake, and remember, those muvva's draw some air!

so they were basically water traps.

an XR2/2.5 offshore engine cowl has a very basic water trap to do the same thing.
 
If possible I would like to see more images of these boats, are there any images of the engine bay?
I spoke to a guy on the isle of white a few years back called Alan Polic I think he had some connection in the building of these boats through Vospa.
Did the boat work? I heard they had problems with the drives going bang I think speedmaster 2 or 3 were used.
The engine is a Turbomeca Turmo c6 it runs on red derv,kero,parafin, so no problems when they start to tax red!
This engine will run all of the above quiet happy without mods

Jason, please excuse my ignorance but what does the brake do? How does it work with the engine?
 
IIRC.....The brake slows the turbine down to allow the drive to be put in gear without causing damage. It also provides a way to reduce engine speed more effectively when off throttle. (There is no engine braking from a turbine)

Thanks Matt. What RPM are we talking here? And how much difference will the turbine make to the engine? (In terms of HP or top speed or acceleration or whatever is an appropriate measure.)

Edit: I'm not really going mad am I and talking to myself? I could have sworn there was a post by Matt up there! :confused:

The turbine is the engine. I don't know what rpm this one idles at but IIRC the smaller Allison (330ish SHP) idles at around 2500 - 3000rpm? at the gearbox output shaft. The N2 turbine itself idles massively higher than that but there is a gearbox that reduces this down to a more manageable rpm.
 
The engine idles at 52% of its max 36500rpm but with the brake applied you can stop the output shaft completly and let the engine just buzz away, horsepower @ idle is around 20-25 that makes one steep power curve
