Yeah, Sabre 28 imported by David Graham-Smith, Never did anything! then (and still) owned by Charles Gardner, has a pair of 2.5 EFI's still never did much, now called 'Wave Slave'

We raced against it with the 2.5's on in 96'/97' didn't cut the mustard!

It's quite a heavy boat

Ah, but my favorite incarnation of the boat was the introduction of the third Suzuki V6 (it originally had twin 200s and a 225 was added in the middle.)

This was on the advice of Mr. Dredge so the boat could compete (oh please) in Class II.

By the time it became 'Wave Slaves' with the 2.5s, it was actually a much nicer boat but with the amazing unreliability of the very much breathed on engines and its weight (as you rightly mentioned) it was always an also ran (when it did run).

Must have been one of those years when entry numbers were low for C-T-C! :bang:

TD was asked if he would enter his Scarab 30 Panther in Class 1 one year to make up the numbers (twin 330's, 60mph!) desperate people!

Your knowledge of this subject has really got me thinking! (remarkable in itself) and now I must know who you are?

Aw shucks Jon, that would be telling and that's against the rules and both you and I know about that as we once wrote the rules.

Ah ha! now when I put your name to TD as the real 'Ned', he said 'Na', so I was right and nobba was wrong. How ya Keeping?

PS Is the profile for real ie, the boat?
PPS, the clue was the Connection with Tony Dowley

That was a while back! they're nowhere to be seen now:cry: although my name is still there for the speed record :D  :seaman:

Now I'm dazed and confused. Was there another 'Ned' (the real Ned) posting as me?

The Crestliner was very real in 1965 when my parents bought it. Originally had a 'Big Twin 40 hp but was replaced in 68 by the 85 hp Starflite. Was the fastest boat in the bay in them days - 40 mph - then some nasty bas.... showed up with a 16' Glastron with a 110 Merc that did 49! The nerve.....I've never gotten over it - which may explain alot.

It is sort of sad. A lot of work and thought went into the process. We tried to get interesting boats back on the water (ala powerboat P1) and all that's come of it so far as the British fleet is concerned) is a bunch of boring blow up boats that generate about as much excitement as the lesser of watching grass grow or watching paint dry.

By the way, I tried to reply to your personal message but it said you were off-line. Go figure.

What ever happened to Michael Sweeting?

He's still a stock broker working for Cantor Fitzgerald and we keep in touch.

Mike spends a good deal of time in their New York offices which were formerly in the World Trade Center just a block away from 14 Wall Street where I used to work as a broker. He lost many friends and colleagues on 9/11.

He stopped racing mainly due to family commitments. A real shame as he is quite a nice guy. One day in 99 I let it slip to him that my wife had just been diagnosed with breast cancer and the following day the largest bouguet of flowers known to man arrived at our front door (for her before anyone gets any ideas).

Not any more, they got pilfered from the back of Ocean Racing years ago, I quoted for a pair of big blocks for it whilst Mark was still in the V V building!!!

Sounds like it could be cheap! that musta been 3 or 4 years ago then.
