Friend of mine came across this in his attic - 3C (2 litre) worlds 1985.

Some familiar names and a few still around.

Seems fair - a 300hp diesel against a 150hp outboard.

Rules were eventually changed to stop that.

Mind it didn't win. Actually quite funny seeing it try to accelerate out of a turn. More turbo lag than you could ever imagine. Before the days of multi-speed gearboxes I guess.

Were a few engine ideas being tried around then - often by the Buzzi camp. Fabio had a four litre cat with twin Merc powerheads mounted inboard driving an outdrive. That way he could legally tune the engines however far he wanted to.

BTW waht are the main differences between a 150 ELPT and an XR2 ?

Assuming you mean the early 150 xr2 as above - feck all.
Had a 200hp tuner & different divider plate, & 6K rpm red line.
Other than that, identical. I'm told good for an extra 10hp or so over a standard 150.

The Popeyes Cougar had a 6 Outboard powerheads in a lay down configuration....connected via gilmer belts to a pair of shafts which connected to 2 #5 Mercruisers....very trick. The anty was upped for a later kilo run when 2 additional powerheads were added......

Just as well it is in America!

No I think I must be getting old as I haven't bought any old race boats for years!
