I am looking at getting our Camel back into fettle and I need to but a better engine on it than the Original Honda 130. I've been thinking about a couple of Engines but am being attracted to an older Yammie V6 200HP but in rather good nick .

I am told that they are a bit juicy anybody here ever run one if so just how expensive was it

i was told they aren't that bad because they dont rev to high unless you remove the limiter

Had a Yam 225 ( 2.6 ltre V6 ) a few years ago and it was great. Smooth, torquey and very reliable. For leisure purposes, I reckon the big Yamahas are hard to beat. :)

The Honda 130 prolly using between 4-6 gph giving you 25/30 knots on that boat if its std cos the frames 250kg on its own. A yam v6 200 will use approx 10 - 12 gph but will take you up to around 35/40 knots if you can afford the fuel (remember you need two stroke oil as well), they are lovely. I would say pm me and stick a Honda 150 vtec on it get rid of the frame and lose some weight. your fuel consumption will be around the same and the 150 dosent have what i call the lump problem which is you need 4500 rpm to get it on the plane. and you'll get about 5/6 knots on the top end.

an indication of how many gallons an hour a normal 2 stroke will eat at full throttle , is about 10% of you horse power. for example a 200hp will eat about 20 gallons an hour. I did not believe this until i installed a fuel flow meter.

you should be able to get a real bargain on a old stock 200 yam as they yam UK are clearing them out as they are only bringing in HPDI V6`s now.
