CT-CTC-Cowes Classic Courses
Having only the 1962,64,66,68,70 and 79 I would want here to make the history of the courses of the Cowes-Torquay then CTC then Cowes Classic.

I have all the course diagrams 61 - to present day.I am scanning them for you,but sometimes the scanner plays up (`preview` ok,`accept `tempermental).
I may well send direct to you as there are nearly 50 to do.

CT or CTC??
Would be good to see all the course charts on BM!
This is something knocked up quickly in the past ...
-e&oe-
1961-67 - Finish at Torquay. Followed by a timed rally, run back to Cowes either Sun or Bank Holiday Monday afternoons for the Bollinger Goblet. 1961/2 via Teignmouth, so that Maxwell, now Lord Beaverbrook could watch race from the Aitken holiday caravan on the Ness! 1965/7 172 nm
1968 - Cowes Torquay Cowes - First year that boats returned non-stop to Cowes via Skerries and Torquay - race distance increased from 172 to 198 nautical miles.
1969-83 - CTC non-stop. 1970 236 nm. 1971 213nm. 1972 219 nm. 1973 222 nm. 1974 221 nm. 1976 199 nm. 1979 183 nm.
1983 & 84 - Cowes Classic (misnomer) Race course changed to Solent IOW only - this was due to the lure of TV coverage if the fleet kept inshore.
1985 - CTC non-stop resumed
1987 – CTC refuel @ Torquay.
1988 - CTC non-stop.
1989 – CTC refuel @ Torquay
1990 - CTC non-stop
1991 - CTC non-stop - A couple of boats did a non-scheduled stop @ Torquay!
1992 - Course excluded Torquay and was to go around the Skerries buoy off Start Point and return non-stop - Race CANCELLED.
1993-95 - CTC non-stop. Martini Endurance Series. 1995 202 nm went via "Buzzi Mark" off Exmouth.
1996-99 - Cowes Classic round the Solent cans, classic stuff.
2000 – BIBOA Race proposed CTC refuel @ Torquay (Can't remember but pretty sure that this was cancelled as too rough for the ribs).
2001 - CTC refuel @ Torquay mandatory 1 hour stop. 40th anniversary
2002 - CTC refuel @ Torquay - raced on Saturday.
2003 - CTC refuel @ Torquay.(E 1st & C 2nd).
2004 - Cancelled
2005-07 - P1 British Grand Prix of the sea. Knight & Co prove (to me) that multi lap racing - once everyone is in their pecking order - gets to be boring and the logical conclusion - is to race catamarans if one is trying to lap as quick as possible on coastal calm short lap circuits… And they called it 'Endurance' racing.
2008 – CTC Start at North Head via Bridport Outfall buoy to the Orestone at the entrance of Torbay and back via Bridport and North Head to Gurnard at Cowes.

Graham,
I think you need to upload those scans to the media site too - the trouble with the forum is that they sooner or later end up buried down the list of threads and forgotten.

I am just returned from Umbria and I see the fantastic job of Flying Fish and thanks to southwestotcat for the others info.
Tomorrow I will see better all.
I would like to continue with the pics of the historical point of the course like Hurst,Anvil,Portland Bill,Skerries and Torquay.
I will post some of them next days.
