Fresh water testing 100 miles from London
What the tag says:
I am looking for a place with fresh water - 3km run where I can run some speed tests on the V24.

Portland harbour in Weymouth. Its about 2.5 miles wide. Its not fresh water but as it has walls around it so does not get choppy.
I'm not sure if they have any speed restrictions but I battered across the harbor several times and nobody batted an eye lid.
There are two All Tide slips aswell, one with a park & launch service for £20.

Only part of the harbour is subject to a speed limit.
Most of it is ok, but watch out for moorings etc.

I think the only part that has a limit is the south side of it where all the dock etc are.

Most of Portland is ok, V24 were thinking about racing there once, we did OCR & Kclass there last year, but as they say restrictions around/near the moorings.

Cant be salty.. Conniston is fresh, and boats *definately* behave differently in fresh vs sea water.
I would need to do this in the next two days!
I need to setup a prop for the fresh water attempt!

I know it not 100 miles from London, but for many years we ski raced on Loch Earn in Scotland miles of fresh flat water, the only other place that comes to mind is Chasewater ski club in Cannock Chase Birmingham, may be a little short for speed trials.

Any contact information?
Anyone else who has any ideas about fresh water? I can expand the search area? Say 4 hours outside of London?

If you want a lage freshwater lake it looks like you have to go to scotland, unless you want to dodge the wardens on windermere.

Web site for Loch Earn http://www.lochearnhead-water-sports.co.uk/
Web site for Chasewater http://www.co2co.uk.com/ChaseWater/
Loch Earn is your best bet, we also raced on a large lake at Stewartby in Bedford many years ago and they do have a power boat section
Web site for Stewartby http://www.stewartby.org.uk/

I dont know if this'll be big enough for you - I doubt it, it's certainly not 3km long, but it's closer than the other options ?

Middlemoor would be way to small, You'd be lucky to get it on the plane and then stop again without hitting the bank at the other end.
