Oil!

Now I realise this is almost as much of a can of worms as prop choice, but I'd rather not just wing it trying different things and bugger up my motor!

It's a 2.5 carb'd 200, 1999ish. I'm ditching the oil injection and changing to 16A electrics in the hope of getting it to run around 6500rpm happily. What oil would you guys recommend, and what pre-mix ratio?

Cheers

Paul,

You've got the same motor as me and I've just done this - don't forget:

Remove all tanks and wires to alarm sender unit on top, port side of block.
Use the Merc block off kit to prevent the pump bearing bush falling into crank.
Block off oil crank pressure feed bottom starboard side of block.
Run fuel pipe directly to pump by passing oil pump.

If you need PN of block off kit key me know.

Sorry if you know all this, just trying to help!

Jim

Part number would be great if you could jim! I knew there was slightly more to it than just ripping all the stuff off but that all sounds straightforward. 33-40ish is what I'd assumed, 65-70 I'm guessing because it's not a high Performance screamer?

Quicksilver premium plus at 40:1 only go to 32:1 if you are revving above 7k
You can try Bobs oil but its like anything some people like it and alot hate it.

Sounds like 40:1 on the premium plus is the way to go then, advantage being it's readily available here! How many of the other boys are on it Sean? Wonder if it's worth looking into clubbing together and buying in bulk!

I run 33-1 on premium plus Quicksilver. Iv never run any leaner than that although by sounds of it I could prob back that off a touch, iv just always worked on the basis, the more smoke in the harbour the better, plus the yacht'ies sat out sipping tea and munching crumpets in the harbour get a nice 2stroke cloud as you pass!!!

AMSOIL Synthetic 100:1 Pre-Mix 2-Cycle Oil (ATC) is recommended for all water-cooled and air-cooled pre-mix applications. A mix ratio of 100:1 is recommended for normal duty service in applications such as motorcycles, outboard motors, snowmobiles, weed eaters, lawn mowers and chain saws. For "severe service" applications, richer mix ratios of 50:1 to 80:1 are recommended. These include racing motors and hot operating workhorse motors that continuously run for extended periods of time.

just read this....seems good stuff after looking at there site.but a 100/1 is for brave souls imho

Ive been using the Dominator in my ski for years and have never had any oil related problems but it is not the cleanest burning oil and you need to checking exhaust etc a little more often. Smells good to!!!
100:1 would scare the life out of me but i have a few friends running 60:1 and leaner in their mx bikes.

Running more oil than recommended isn't a good idea as you are actually running lean and have more chance of blowing ya motor!!!!
