Solid Mounts

When converting to solid mounts (Yam outboard) what is the prefered material ? Aluminium, Nylon or other ?

Nylatron GSM is what we've always made the solid mounts out of.
Its Nylon impregnated with Molybdenum disulphide grease MOS2 to make it self lubricating. Also used it to replace steering idler arm bushes on Volvo F and FL trucks with 4 wheel steering. Lasted a lot longer than the item supplied by MC Truck and Bus.

In ' 86' - 87 I did 19 races with a wooden cat using bog standard Yam mounts.
6 wins, 3rd in the world championship, loads of 2nd placings!

In '92 I raced with Roy Smith in an ally hull, tried using solid mounts, but it shook everything to pieces.

'95 raced in an Argo Cat, and got Wilson's mech (the late Barry Clayton) to change the mounts "bog standard" after every race. 8 wins, runners up World Championship.

Since have driven an Argo at 83 mph using ally mounts.

It is not an easy one to call.

Use this on the Guides for Aircraft flap tacks - Just not a fan as I've changed hundreds of the buggers over the years where they have broken. Slight side load or out of alignment & - crack

…was planning to Run in 3B with something like this:

…but I am running a bit behind schedule, as it took much longer to sell my other boat than what I had planned. There is also a slight complication of moving to Norway, hopefully get the boat built this spring/summer…and then do some races in Norway towards the end of the season if it is ready in time.

Is that a Rib?

Why do you need Nylatron for something that won't need lubricating?

They are being machined from Aluminium

Maybe I should have quoted Foolish and Spitpin for clarity - By the way I think aluminium and plain nylon are ideal - we (Well Kitten does) make the Yam ones for the guys down here for OCR

Thanks for your compliments. The shape is derived to get the centre of aerodynamic pressure as close to CG possible without using wings like the bat boats, but using a modified rib tube. I tweaking deck moulding now and will post some pics of the final design.
Cookee: you have PM
