Dude the size of jets very much depends on the type of carbs you have. Mercury made loads of different carbs and they all have different internal circuits. Therefore different carbs use different size jets for the same results on the same engine. My advice is to ask your engine builder.

Go for rich and work down. If you are really stuck, go for so rich it 4 strokes then lean it by about 2 sizes. Slightly rich gives you about the same power as spot on because of the cooling effect of the extra fuel on the charge. Too lean you seem to already know about.

They are either not the latest carbs or the wrong jets - we use 94's to run an XR2 in with!

Thats why we where going slower in the race than everyone else! Does that mean that this "new" engine I have is 178HP based on the jets / Carbs? The seller said it was 200HP?
Can anyone tell from a pic?

You should run one size bigger main jets in cylinders 2 and 5 casue they run the hottest. However, be aware that the inlet manifold crosses over though so its the carbs in front of 1 and 6. okie dokey
