XR2 Price

Just out of interest what should I expect to pay for an Xr2 200? Doesn't have to be too fancy, not that new either...early 90's?
Don't mind if it looks scruffy outside either, just needs to run well and be complete....
Cheers, Maxim

I know someone who's just paid £2500 for a low hours late 90's model, So 2 grandish sounds reasonable.

I would buy something else instead as they have a tendancy to go bang and rebuilds cost your more than £2K, if you want all that sh*t at least have something that the power output makes you so happy you put up with the rebuilds like an 2.5L (http://www.boatsandoutboards.co.uk/view/F87748/).

Alternatives:

http://www.boatsandoutboards.co.uk/view/F86727/

http://www.boatsandoutboards.co.uk/view/F90162/

Yams are great but this looks like a fake at that price http://www.boatsandoutboards.co.uk/view/F96677/

Another that is proabably as fast as the XR2 http://www.boatsandoutboards.co.uk/view/F85396/

Cheers for all your help, I'll think it over for a while, it's for a project boat so I'm not gonna need it for a while!
Cheers again, Maxim

I tried racing with an xr2 after I blew my 2.5 up, I only did 1 race and returned the xr2, acceleration out of the turns is non existant, midrange is woefull and flat out was downright painfull.

Is that elaborate enough.

The only good thing about the xr2 was it used half as much fuel than my efi.

Everyone reckons the XR2's give 200Hp some of them (probably most of them) only give 150HP, compare that with my friend Taz's 280 2.5L both on p20s. The XR2 on acceleration feels like a land rover and the 2.5 feels like a ferrari, top speed wise you cant drive Tazs boat flat out there so much power it wont go in a straight line! The Xr2 was nice flat out but not frightening.

If you like the noise of these engines but dont want the hassel consider a Mercury 200HP engine buy an offshore legg for it and an alien cowl looks and sounds the same but is reliable and proably faster than the knackered old XR2. IMHO

I would say the majority of XR2's (including the one's you had) are approximately 200hp

Agreed some of them run really well but the HP differential between Tazs and mine (real world test i.e. how it feels) felt considerably more than 60-80 HP. I would go as far as saying nearly twice as much HP.

I would agree with roofers comments regarding accerleration, a further comparison would be a 90HP yam on a phantom 16 compared to the inline staright 6 115HP "Tower of Power" Mercury we had on it. The Yam drove nice and top end was OK. The Tower of Power felt like an F1 car in comparison. I think the XR2 has had its day personally.

BTW Sterling does a great Job when i raced against him he left me for dust, but the Bat boats left him for dust and winner by a mile (figurative speech before the anoraks come out to debate) ran a 200HP XS. (Allhallows Last year)

Pic of the great Sterling and the damage to my engine:
http://www.boatmad.com/forum/showthr...e&pagenumber=6

Brought new powerhead same happened again 12 hours later! That was with 10 hours of running in and NO racing.

Like I said they sound great but dont go that fast and my Freelander is more reliable! Now thats saying something

Very Muddy - Boats have now been banned from using the Thames! The Gumball challenge has been cancelled as well!
