Brixham National – Sunday 7th May
Hi Ladies and Gentleman,
Welcome to the Brixham National 2006, if there is anything else you want to know please email
or phone on of the contact numbers below.
Firstly car parking arrangements for Campers, hopefully you have already received an e-mail
from me explaining that there is limited parking for campers. We have hired a limited area of
the Oxen Cove car park from Torbay council, which will allow you to sleep overnight. The rest
of the car park will be pay and display and it will be your own responsibility to ensure you have
paid the correct rate. Due to your limited space, if you are bringing a camper then you will have
to pre-book your space with myself. Priority will be given to people who have pre-paid I’m
afraid. The fee for campers is as follows:
Campers 30 feet in length or over £25 for the weekend
Campers less that 30 feet long £20 for the weekend
Please contact me to confirm your space and send a cheque made out to SWASC for the
correct amount and send it to myself at 18B St. Marychurch Road, Torquay, Devon, TQ1 3HY.
By way of note there is not electrical hook-up, so please, if you have on board generators don’t
use them any later than 9pm. Barbeques are also not allowed in the car park, however the
yacht club will be open for food, and the town centre, which is just a few hundred yards away
does have a large variety of good pubs and restaurants.
There will be no tide restrictions over the weekend so practicing on Saturday will be no
problem. You will have to be scrutineered and signed in prior to launching. If you require
assistance with scrutineering please contact myself or Rod Hawkins. Please note there is a
5knot speed limit in the harbour, which extends to the end of the breakwater, so please make
sure you observe that. We don’t want to upset the Harbour Master!
The Brixham Yacht Club has been kind enough to allow us to use their excellent facilities,
which include showers, changing rooms and a late bar! Please note showers are charged at
50p a time. You will find a temporary weekend members pass at the back of this pack. Please
keep this on you if you are asked by yacht club staff.
Scrutineering is planned around the set times as indicated on the front sheet, however, if you
are going to be late, due to traffic etc. please give myself or Rod a call out of courtesy and we
will arrange an alternative time. Again there is not Scutineering planned for Sunday, however if
you are arriving on Sunday morning, then you will need to pre-arrange this with Rod. There will
be no Scrutineering on Sunday after 9am.

Directions to Brixham
From the M5
At the end of the M5 (junction 31), the road turns into the A38. Take the A380 turnoff to
Torquay. Follow the road until you come to the Newton Abbott roundabout. Carry on straight
over the roundabout, following the signs for Torquay. Sign posted all the way. Pass through
Kingkerswell and you come to the Riviera roundabout. Turn right and follow the signs to
Brixham.
On the approach into Brixham, there is a set of traffic lights, with a fork to the left and right.
Take the left fork. Hopefully at this point you will see the Ski Race signs I have put up.
However you should be heading towards the Harbour. After the forking left, the road is straight
until you could to a set of traffic lights at a crossroads, take another left (to the Harbour), and
follow the road round, until you come to a junction with the harbour in front of you. Carry
straight on (not right) and follow the Harbour side, you will see the fish quay on the right, the
road bears to the left and goes up-hill. At the top of the hill there is a sharp left hand bend. The
entrance to the car park is straight ahead. However, if you have a large camper, you may well
require assistance in towing you boat into the car park. If this is the case then please give
myself, Tim or Derek a call and we will assist you.
Note: on exiting the car park, please go out of Brixham the way you came, do not follow
the sign to Paignton which is immediately in front of you. You can go that way, however
the road narrows and there are some tight bends to manoeuvre!
Petrol Stations
There are a number of petrol stations on the way through to Brixham. However, if you require
super unleaded I strongly suggest you use the BP garage in Kerkerswell. It is on the left hand
side and easy to enter with a boat. Alternatively for regular unleaded there is a TEXACO
garage just before Brixham on the right hand side. There is an ESSO garage in Brixham which
again you will see on the right hand side of the road, however this only sells regular unleaded.
The easiest Shell Garage for Optimax is at Kennford Services just before you turn off the A38
on to the A380. However, there is steep hill to drive up afterwards, so be warned!
