An old classic

Was down in Nortern Spain last week on a Scorpion Rib with a 250 outboard out of Ampuira brava nicely anchored off some nature reserve Islands to snorkel with some fish.
After the snorkelling we were just relaxing amongst the mass of other traditional Spanish ,rental and other boats when a very old looking powerboat rocked up. Original gel coat about 25 ft and looked like a Shead design. Turns out it was an Arrowshaft with a 225 hp Yamaha in place of the two straight sixes she would have had in the seventies.
One of only eleven built I understand but great to see and meet the English Skipper too !
Who designed them ?

The Man was Mr Brian Hendicott who used to work at Norman Fletchers
I believe that he also had a very large hand in the the design and build of the Bonito 36 Royal Falcons.
My late friend Denys Wolstenholm ordered an Arrowshaft against my advise which he had fitted with a pair of Volvo race 200`s and Volvo E drives. I would not race in it. At the start of The Cowes Torquay one year whilst the boat rolled around in the muster area the fuel poured out of the Port engine triple Weber carburettors over the Starboard engine which then set the boat on fire.
Denys said "Luckily I was able to the fire out", I for one am still thinking about the overall the wisdom of that action !! Ian Toll, from back in the day.

Aha ! Thanks for that Ian. What was that boat called then,it wasn't Penny Two by any chance was it ? I always remember two of those racing in Guernsey early 1970s lovely blue colour schemes.
On the water the bow look every low profile ,very similar to the early droop snout Phantom 23.
The guy in Spain reckoned Noël Edmunds had some connection with his boat !
A real nice original red and white one. It's not often you see a boat out on the water that takes you back forty or so years !

Hi, I am sorry but for now I can not remember the full name The boat was Blue, white and gold and called "El ----" something may have been Shaft, or was it " Shafted" I think that the boat had two outings before it was thought that perhaps Denys was depriving someone else the opportunity of a thrilling ride !!
Noel Edmunds was a client of Bonito boats and had a Royal Falcon 36 built in silver name "Miss Pearcorder" which he towed behind a custom built six wheel Range Rover, all very impressive in the day.

Noel Edmonds and Fletcher Zingaro

Hi.
I was happily reading through this post, I’d searched Noel Edmonds and the date he picked my step Dad and Uncle up from Christchurch Priory in Dorset, he collected them in his helicopter and flew them to Cowes to do the Cowes-Torquay run, I remember walking around from our family boat on the river and around to the Priory where Noel flew in and collected them, the amazing 80’s where everything seemed free and easy, now looking back as a 48 year old of course, funny time’s, I do remember everyone saying that Noel was such a lovely man, always happy to show people on his race boat.
The days when if you had any money, you had a Range Rover and raced it and power boats.
I was a very fortunate lad.
