Hard to get/Overpriced
What are the most difficult to get/overpriced items in this country?
Latham steering would be one - but not much demand.
1/2 UNF bolts?
Gorilla Jack plates?

Agreed on the latham but def Gorilla jack plates! Mostly spares!

Many years ago when working for Gartrac race and rally we used "Margnor Fastners" in worplesdon (Guildford) back then if they didn't have them they were not available, ... quite suprised to see they are still going so probably worth a try...

Stainless Marine are Ok as long as you dont use words over 7 letters
Latham are a pain as it's all transfers no credit cards other than that fine
Earls UK got to be the worst
Still wating on fittings ordered in September, take ya choice on excuses from missed flights, public holidays, pregnant goldfish, hampster with depression, ect, ect makes you think how they stay in business, oh yeh overpriced

Those 1/2'' unf bolts are actualy 9/17'' i belive. Why not use unc and double locnut them. We never have any problems with them unwinding.

I think its just that you can get the fine thread bolts tighter, also i think there diameter is ever so slightly bigger

Think the tightness thing was put around by merc so they could charge you £12.00 per bolt and £2.00 per nut. Most lifter bolts are unc and they seem to be tight enough and not suffer unduly.

Yep true! Gorilla jacks come with the unc bolts so must be allright!

It's common sense when you think about it, a fine thread will always pull up tighter than a coarse!
Stainless Marine etc use UNC coz they expect you to be bolting their product to a glass/wooden transom, if it's metal to metal you really should be using UNF or Metric fine.
Out of interest, quite a few of the latest motors are coming through with UNC !!!!!

And a fine thread has more base material left cause the threads are less in depth,so the bolt is stronger when diameter and material are the same.
When real strenght is wanted the thread is rolled on the material instead of cutting thread,that way the bolt has not loosen any material,and is not as sharp as a cut thread bolt ,the cutting is what starts the bolt to break ,ehh we call it kerf working here ,don,t know the english word for that...
