Living with a mercury 2.5 efi offshore.

What are they like to own and run?

service intervals

Litres per hour at different rpms

do they like cruising or only going nicked?

how well do they idle and trundle about if you want to use in slow speed scenarios??

Either! does one trundle up the river with one and not expect to 2stroke out everyone onboard?

These motors are race engines designed to run at high revs. They are very high compression and highly strung and are usually run at 1:32 and recommendations for rebuilds are as frequent as 50hrs. If you don't need a screamer and aren't aiming for absolute max power with minimum weight and max possible top speed, why bother.

Relatively speaking, there aren't huge gains from an efi ROS motor compared with a consumer efi or optimax. Maybe 10-15 mph on a 21ft ring or phantom. Personally, I wouldn't bother if you aim to do quite a bit of low rev trolling.

280 ROS, depending how 'hot' it's put together can be a bugger to start once its up to running temp. Need to put an interrupt on the fuel pump then it fires first time .
