I reckon SBS would be unlikely to make an illegal trailer - so if they designed/built that trailer it will be OK - so if you're worried, give em a call.
The NTTA website also excludes the ' coupling & drawbar'. How long are they?
I also reckon don't worry about it, just do it.

I don't think so - it's not an HGV trailer.
Look at the SBS website - it's an R4-3500B (says so on the sticker in the photo) - http://www.sbstrailers.co.uk/the_spo...t_trailers.asp
Right down at the bottom of the page.

Look at the length of some of the gliders that are towed by normal cars ????
We have all seen them, some are up to 50-60'
So it must me true what we say
"it's not the length thats important"

From what I can gather it seems to be the trailer itself is limited to 7m but you are allowed an overhang at the back of up to 3.05m - it also excludes the drawbar. So a boat of up to 10.05m would be allowed?
Maximum width would seem to be 2.9m overall and weight 3500kgs.
Nice to see they always try to simplify laws!!!
Just looked at some of the trailers they do for the gliders - some are 20m long!!!
So WHAT is the proper definition???

Max length : Normally 7m but may exceed 7m if "constructed and normally used for the conveyance of indivisible loads of exceptional length"

meaning you can't cut your glider in half.....so by conclusion the same would appy to a boat .
Guess the nut cotton would be you could stick it on a low loader but the same could be said for a glider also

for the replys ....
PS.. asked a "Traffic Cop" today and after checking his little black book and a call on the radio... he didn't have a clue
He remarked that "HE" would only "Tug it" if it looked unsafe or seriously overweight for tow vehicle IE : Mini Transit

This is my understanding of the law.

Most Boats considered trailerable in the UK are built to the Max .. IE: 8"6"
although this is only Max Load width
Trailer Max width is 2.2m (7"6') for the under 3500kg trailers

Nope:
I tow the boat through the M25 toll booth, and twice I have been pulled by the police on the approach. Both times they wanted me to go through as a wide load ( ie escorted ) Both times I told them I was 9'4" and Both times they allowed me through their tollbooth unassisted. On the first occasion the guy stopped me at the entrance to the toll booth and said that their booth lanes were 9'9" wide, and my boat looked like it was wider and thus a wide load. After I said it was not, he let me drive through the toll booth and when the boat fitted through he waved me on. The second time I was stopped at the entrance again by an excited cop waving and shouting. He said I was illegal and needed to be driving with an escort, and I could not use the toll booth, and needed to go to the left hand side and arrange an escot vehicle. I told him I regularly went through the toll booth, and my boat was 9'4" wide - it just looked bigger. He let me proceed - to proove his point, as they have big poles to stop you if you are too wide. When I went through, he also gave me a wave.
If I was illegal surely they would have stopped me and held me, as by my own admission I was 9'4"???
I know in Europe the V24 is too wide. But not in the UK..
