Which Boat

Hi all I am new here and while I have had a number of Ribs in the past I am new to sports boating. My intention is some water skiing with the kids and general running around. I have a budget of around £10K and at the moment I am looking at a 2 year old Four Winn’s 180 bowrider with the 3Ltr Volvo; I am also looking at a 3 year old Mariah SX18 also with a 3Ltr Mercruiser and a 2005 Maxum with the 4.3 Ltr V6.

Any advice on quality running cost and if the 3Ltr would be underpowered?

Cheers
D

Personally I wouldn't bother with the 3.0 - wouldn't pull a gerbils foreskin back. 4.3 consumption is only marginally more and sounds better being a V6 with much better torque.

What about a Regal 1800 SLR Bowrider. It has a 1.7dti, engine. Diesel 35p a litre, Nice!! it goes 47 mph, will pull 4 wakeboarders (I have done it) loads of torc, its done 130 hours roller trailer and also in very good condition. hardly used, New turbo last year.
12000 may take a lot less if you ask nicely.
It used £30 of fuel over the weekend. and went very far. and out for a good 7 hours a day. or you could get a petrol boat and use 30 gph if you like.
But this is a very good boat.
I am back in uk next week if you would like a look.

Hi, the Regal 1800 would be a good choice, loads of room and great economy. If you can stretch a little further the 1900 is a better option but would be rigged with a 4.3 v6. Both good well built boats with a good turn of speed.

I thought 'red' which I assume your referring to was circa 51p a litre? That said Brussels have managed to get that banned for UK farmers as of next year on the grounds of being 'non competitive' so won't be around for long.

That said the 1.7tdi unit could be a great choice, even at regular fuel prices.

The farmers get it for that price. So if you know of any farmers go buy some. But yeah, red diesel is red, why tax farmers and boaters differently!

Red's 72p a litre here (IOW) - not been 35p for a long time!
