XR2 Hydraulic Steering
Hi Chaps,
Anyone know the best way to go about fitting a Seastar kit to a 1988 XR2?
Currently have an HC 5342 ram (The old slider type) but cant see any logical way of getting it to fit.
Looking online, not sure if I would be better off buying one of the newer HC 5345 types?
Is there anyway you can get these to fit without cutting the bottom tray?
Cheers

This is the ram I have at the sec, needs a bit of paint! that adaptor block just seems to foul on the bottom tray and tilt tube... haven't got a good picture of the front of the engine, will try get one tomorrow in the day light if it helps!

2 bolts attach it to the short steering arm. we actually broke 2 of these style steering rams with our xr2 (1996 version though). We tapped the original threads and used a pair of high tensile m8 bolts (cant remember length sorry but think around 100mm) these held fine, its the ally bracket for the slider, 1 bent along with the washer and popped out (video on facebook, bad!!!) the other started bending and steering was luckily unusable. hopefully new style bracket can take it otherwise im going to hydrive steering!

Cheers for the advice everybody, I've had a look at it and I think its starting to make sense now, the boat is off the trailer in the garden at the sec,While we paint up the trailer, so can't trim the engine down. Will let you know how I get on when its back on the trailer!

just dug out my old system, still had the bolts in it so if you would like them happy to post them to you. all you need to do is tap the thread on your engine. because its imperial and probably rusty lol you actually will cut a new thread. i will measure but im sure its M8. The bolts are high tensile (M8 i think) bolts. ping me an email if you want them. info@creammarine.com

Buy a new HC5345 or HC6345 ram ! It's really not worth taking a chance ! The bolts in question for the extension are good high tensile 5/16th UNF. Tapping to 8mm is just bodging it.
