How close is the course to Hurst ? ( as in years gone by ) last time I was there a couple of years ago they were all on I O W side.

Well someone ought to give you a reply...if only out of good manners. I'm no expert, but I know a man who is!

I'm afraid the racing line looks much as it did before - so if the racing is neck-and-neck, they're going to take the shortest line (sandbanks, chalk stacks, sunken cargo ships, spectator craft, dolphins, kayaks and homicidal windsurfers allowing) between the buoys... Cowes-Torquay: Sconce to Port, SW Shingles to Starboard... Torquay - Cowes: Needles Fairway to Port, Sconce to Starboard

...or ask one of the competitors. I wish you luck and the faint hope that if they want a good picture of their boat in action, they'll stray over to your side!

The course will have been agreed ages ago by the race committee with the RYA / UIM, Coastguard and all the other host of authorities / interested parties, so they'll doubtless have good reason to send them that way.

You'll see something from hurst, unless it like today, poring with rain, mind you it wouldn't be the first time, you could have a close encounter from the beach at hurst, race boats have been known to come ashore there

My apologies in advance for threading on something I've no involvement with, however the passing of Mike Fiore overnight, following his crash on Saturday, has put all of our love and passion for this sport into real perspective. Please allow me to humbly suggest that the gathering of so many offshore boats at the CTC this weekend might provide an opportunity for racers to mark their sadness and respect through a rev-out, or some other display, on their own behalves and on behalf of all those who love the sport on this side of the pond.

I understand that the race is being kept offshore as it is an "offshore" race! Seriously, there will be major congestion in the Poole Bay between Highcliffe and Sandbanks because of the Bournemouth Air Show:

According to Race Instructions trophies are awarded on total elapsed time for both legs, so its good that Fabio is not racing ...

Thanks, same as mine. Wondered if it might update continuously like the flight trackers...seems not.

I'm guessing the conditions have changed going in to Lyme Bay.

Brilliant turnout at the start again this year, well done to all behind the race.

Loved being part of it, nearly didn't get there due to Portsmouth being shut due to a triathlon, meaning I had to run 2 miles to get to my boat !!!!!

Cant wait to see the results later.

There was spectators packed from rys to gurnard this morning for start, thought it was the 90s,lol. That shows that people want to watch,hear and feel the power. Good show

Thank you to all involved in keeping this race alive. This must be the very last real open ocean race that is still active.

Watching from across the pond, but wishing very much some day to be a competitor there. My biological clock is running down as they say.

Wonderful stuff ... or at least what I have been able to gather over the ether so far of today's racing !
The Yellowbrick tracker was, as usual, great fun to follow and with my limited knowledge and experience plus past post-race driver reports to rely on, I had an exciting time here at my kitchen table in Mexico willing you all on and imagining the tactics and indeed antics that were in play.
Many congrats to all for what appears to have been a very well organised and well attended Cowes Classic 2014.
As in recent years I would be very grateful indeed if someone could let me know who is awarded the John Mace Memorial Design trophy this year and If a photo from the prize giving could be forthcoming, well that would be splendid and very gratefully received.
