2.5 v6 mariner, differences between 200 & 225?
Well we just had the '99 200 mariner on my rib running, which i bought under the impression it was knackered due to water damage. It's definitely not knackered, we now think the 'engineers' were trying to con the old owner into buying a new motor. It's a bit rough, as it's been sat for a couple of years, but it starts, idles and revs freely. I'm just wondering what the differences are between this motor and the 225s? Are there interchangeable parts to up the power, or would we have to do some custom work to it?
With a bit of luck we can get it running properly, saving me a good few grand meaning I can get goodies like lifters and shiny props
Cheers
Paul

I think the later 225 is a 3.0 litre engine . What year is the 225hp engine .

I don't have a 225, I was trying to find out if any parts from a 225 would fit my '99 200. I know that 135s and 150s are the same except for the carbs, just wondered if the 200 And 225 are the same

I've got a complete 2.4 bridgeport with a blown piston. You could fit the heads, carbs and electrics from that, combined with a set of Boyeson reeds to get a decent increase in power. I'm pretty sure it'll all fit across, but Burty or someone will be able to confirm....

Conversion
I am pretty sure that the 2.4 heads have a differnt bolt pattern to the later 2.5 heads so they won't fit.
That would also be true for the reads and read cages.

Thats a shame, maybe a set of late xr2 heads, different jetting for the carbs and a set of boyesons designed for the 200 then?

Skim the heads to up compression and get rid of the 40 amp electrics and heavy flywheel and rev it to 7500k

i'd say 7K is defo ok oiled at 40:1 not sure i'd want to turn to 7500 but if you do then i'd maybe oil at 32:1 Roofer may have more knowledge of turning that high on standard internals?

Nice one thanks for all the help guys!
Weather permitting I'm going to try and get her in the water this weekend to give it a run and see how it goes at the moment, I'm pretty sure I'll be wanting more power though
One of the main priorities is going to be a jackplate as the motor is very low at the moment, and is on the highest bolt holes already... I'm guessing a Bob's nosecone will be the easiest way to get low water pickups?
Thanks again for the help
