Jack Plate material

Hello all

I'm attempting to make my own manual adjustment Jack Plate for the Suzi 200HP EFI I've brought.

Its all figured out, however I thought I'd ask for opinions on what thickness Ali Plate to use for the false Transom.
I'm thinking of using 15mm plate.

(IMHO) Whats the thickness of he angle you are using? I would guess the plate should be of simular thickness. TBO 15mm sounds a bit thick for the plates(IMO before I get shot down)

Am thinking of using 6mm Stainless angle.

Suppose the 15mm might be a bit over the top. 12mm might be better.

CMC's powerlifts are made from 1/2" 6061 T6 aluminium. They also make one where the angles that the motor are bolted to are made from stainless steel. On this model the stainless steel angles are also 1/2".

To be honest making your own jack plate sounds like a bit of a risky business. If it fails you could loose you engine or even you life. The manufactures of jackplates such as CMC have a very good understanding of the forces involved and their designs are tried and tested. For the price of a second had CMC manual lift (approx £100-150) or even a new one (£300 ish) is it really worth the hassle or the risk?
