mariner 2.5v6 rattle
Hi all,
I have a mariner 2.5v6 which starts and runs perfect and has good compression.
When idling it has a slight rattle from somwhere on the engine, however I cant seem to pinpoint the cause of the noise.
It is only when idling and with the engine hood off that its really noticeable, the engine is low hours and has been well looked after and never overheated.
When I increase the revs the rattle disappears, I am not massively familiar with these engines so just wondered if there was anyone that may be able to shed some light on the cause of this?
Many thanks
Oli

i had a rattle on mine last year, turned out it was the lower crank bearing, could also be the top bearing too. grab the flywheel and see if theres any excessive movement side to side.

Speak to Lloyde or Driver 510 here as they had it apart,
I think I know what it might be,
Sounds like the rattle we had on a 2.5 Promax not a knock, could be a cheap repair but it has to come apart.

We put a new one in because we were not sure what would happen with the big space that was left ( crank case pressure , movement and so on )and did not want to have to pull it apart again .
Driver 510 your man ,the engine was fantastic after .

Hi all,
For those who are interested, I pulled the engine apart last night and found a trapped bleed hose and a set of knackered small end bearing on no.2 cylinder!
Oli.
