They're great, but according to the US websites the 496 doesn't like much above 3psi boost. Whipple's are sposed to be kinder to the motor!

How much work is involved fitting them?
3.5 psi boost still takes the hp to 580 seems reasonable.
Do you think its worth trying them out on the rib?
What is Whipples?

Pretty easy to fit, should make the old girl get up and go.
Whipples are a better make of blower! IMHO

They're pretty easy to fit, probably do them in situ. Can probably get an OEM price on them for you.
Would I fit em if it was my boat, possibly. quite fancy one in one of my 24's.

If you intend racing in Marathon, you'll need to consider sticking with natural aspiration.
With supercharged 8.1 litre motors, you'd fall into M1, but you're not long enough for M1.
Not trying to piss on anyones bonfire, just don't wanna see you waste ya dosh.

Realise that John
Thought it might be a cheap way of seeing how quick we could go with 600hp on the old style hull
Never know might put some new motors in for RB12

crikey 3.5psi takes it upto 580hp I wonder what could be achieved with some forged internals running even mild boost levels ? now that would be interesting.

Tony the reason I suggested these to Barry was the easy fit. I.e. bolt on the front without touching the rest of the motor for not a lot of money. He can then see the difference 50% HP makes or whether he already close to VMAX.
Far cheaper than a pair of Illmors just to find he's on the wrong base.
Do whipples fit as easily / cheaply on an efi motor?
The thing that struck me was whether he could get enough air to them. No point introducing boost if there isn't enough there to start with.

The Phantom 28 that set a really good IOW average some years back had some kind of supercharger on small blocks which really did appear to give it a real kick in the performance department, although as often the case the more you stick on your engine the more to go wrong as I recall a thread on here that I can not find about one of the chargers breaking a bearing in the IOW race ... but it did go like stink

Rogers 28 had ProChargers, and suffered a blower failure. it turned out there was a bearing missing from one end of the turbine shaft. Unbelievable, but I saw it with my own eyes.
It re-decorated the turbine quite nicely.

Was it the 06 or 07 IOW race it happened in
I take it as it was a long time back the problem has now been sorted and the Phantom back up to speed with Prochargers still fitted, although I don't recall reading or seeing it in action since then

Hasn't run since then. However, he does have the replacement blower now.

Jeff told me last night Barry that if you raised your engines as he suggested in the first place then you would go faster. Also I told you how to gain about 25/30 more HP per engine legally which you scoffed at but by then you had had 6 pints (or more) of Guinness and beginning to slur

I suspect that may help. Just looking at all the options at the moment. Don't want to spend fortunes this year seeing as there is another biggun coming up in 2012.
Got worse later ended up in a curry house with Gordon, Jan and Gino plus some others ( hic )
