Want Paint my Hull Inside ?

I am thinking about to take the carped of and paint the hull inside,
what is the material what Burty did use on his apache ?

is it gel with spotter paint drops, or something epoxy
i like the way cigarette is doing the engine compartment,it looks like a very thick glossy coat.

would be best something, to apply with a small paint roll.

thanks for ya help

We have always used 2k Car Paint. mixing paint with hardner (no thinners) apply with brush or roller. seems to work best with dark colours, grey, blue, etc lighter colours will need extra coat.
Alternatively it is flow coat (gel coat with a wax solution added)

As OCRDA says with the gel coat,
The finish still looks the same today as it did when Burty had it done.

it was white flow coat then red and black flicked from a big brush whilst the original white was still wet, our new boat was done in the same way but blue instead of black

thanks for the tec info
i go with the flow

is there a brand/company who sells this flow coat stuff ready mixed, or do i have to mix it by my self.

this is my company for epoxy and gel here in germany, i would go with this gel to start the project
http://shop.r-g.de/en/Mold-making-Ge...er-HT-2-W.html

thats what i found on the net
flowcoat with 3 % styrene and 3 % wax solution, then the hardener ??
thats what i found on the net ,i am not a chemist

Q: What is gel-coat?
A: Gel coat is a specially formulated polyester resin that is applied on the mould face. Designed to give good appearance, colour, water and weather resistance.
Q: What is the difference between flow coat and gel coat, can either be sprayed to produce a water tight finish?
A: Flow coat is a gelcoat, with a wax in styrene additive for use as a top coat. Gel coat can be sprayed providing that it is "spray gel coat" not hand lay gel coat. Both gel coat and flow coat will give a watertight finish, providing it is used in conjunction with a fibre glass lamination.
Q: One 'how to' book I have says only spraying gives an acceptable gel coat finish. Another says application with a paintbrush will give satisfactory results, but thickness must be controlled. Which is correct? Are there different types of gelcoat for spraying and brushing? How do I know how thick the gel is if I brush it on?
A: Both brushing and spraying the gel coat give an acceptable finish within a mould, unless you intend to use clear gel coat with a metal or decorative back up. In this case a spray is necessary. I suggest that you coat over twice with gel coat, allowing the first coat to harden. There are different gel coat available, depending on whether you are brushing or spraying.

Pull out all the crap from the area you want to treat, skim the surface with a 4" grinder with a p36 disc, clean well and acetone down. Mix you base gelcoat with 10% wax and styrene solution (available from FRP supplies or local boatbuilder) any contrasting colours need to mixed at the same ratio. If you can buy pre mix flowcoat this will be easier.

When you are ready to apply, first catalyse at around 2% with MEKP, use a 3-4" brush and apply your base colour, Catalyse your splash colours while the base is wet and flick over base and allow all time to cure.

Clean up any splashes with acetone and rags, be cautious of sparks etc.

1kg of base flowcoat will cover just over a square metre, if you buy spray base it will go further than brush flowcoat, thinner.

Shopping list
.?Kgs of Iso flowcoat base colour
.?grams of splash colour flowcoat
.MEKP 100-250ml should be plenty
.wax and styrene if required
.few litres of acetone
.couple of plastic ice cream tubs
.couple of brushes
.disposable gloves
.vapour mask if your soft.

All the best good luck
