Yanmar 315 diesel
Just wondered what you can crank a Yanmar 315 diesel up to? Is 400 possible and what are the drawbacks, is it expensive?
Thanks
Rick

Never run one but I have heard it said that Bravo X's don't like more than 315 or a heavy throttle!

It should be easy to get say 400 from it change the turbo, intercooler, drop the comp ratio, uprate the injection equipment etc but how things like the rods, crank take it I dont know so replace them with custom made items along with forged pistons just to make sure that it wont go bang fit steel bearing caps. In the end not much Yanmar left! Then you will have to use a racing drive. much better to buy a std 400hp engine like the Yanmar 440!

Goldfish takes this engine upto 380 hp, without increasing the peak torque.

out of interest how much would a secondhand 440 cost, and how much would you get for a 5yr old 315?
Also what is the size difference. I guess the weight is up quite a bit also which might be a problem.
couldn't find any info on the goldfish site apart from their flash intro etc. have emailed them.
Doesn't seem to be much info out there on modifying diesels but would expect to be able to get another 20% without opening it up which would give around 380. You don't have to open turbo car engines to get another 20% whether petrol or diesel. I suspect as long as you take care of the excess heat, larger intercooler and heat exchanger everything should be ok. but what do i know.
would love to hear your thoughts.

just wondered do they run the 315 through a gear box to increase the rpm for the bravo or leave it 1:1 and just chuck a big prop on it?

It nice having a high revving light diesel for fast boat applications….
Just out of general interest, how does the 380hp compare in price to the 315hp?

Have you modified it to be sure of reliability or do you just run it faster?

Have you read our terms?

sorry mr Fuller did not know is that not allowed ?
the Dmax in the goldfish 29rib is 14euro more
goes from 54knots(315) to 61knots(380)
designed to be reliable and to rev to 4300 in that aplication

that's all very interesting.
The goldfish hull seems to defy the Levi formula for speed. (by quite a bit) must be a very special hull indeed.
The Levi formula says that an increase in power from 315 to 380, with all other details remaining the same (my assumption) will take the speed from 54knts, to 58knts. (62mph to 67mph) Steps must come into their own with the higher speed.

I take it that's a, "No, we don't modify them for reliability, we just run them faster and hope for the best." then?
