would be a shame to see this basic disappear of the calender, I always thought it may be better supported if it moved a tad later in the year to say mid to late March still brassy and as they say march winds so should please the roughty tuffty I like it rough lot, and make it a charity event race like the Cancer research race is

Brass Monkey Cancelled
I’m sorry to inform you all that the RMYC will not be running the Brass Monkey race this year.
At the RMYC Motorboat committee meeting in November last year we decided to only run one race in 2011 (the other choice was none!!!), the Cancer Charities race in June, this was mainly due to the loss we incurred in 2010 due to the lack of entries in our June & August races, the 2010 Brass Monkey was cancelled due to only 7 boats entering.
At the recent RYA ORC we were asked to reconsider running this year’s Brass Monkey with the help of the affiliated clubs, as you can see from the earlier posts the only interest shown is one spectator on the pier, and one possible entry if it’s a day one event (which it always is),so we have no choice but cancelling, we will try to run this race next year and will consider moving it to a later date, but it is normally run to coincide with the RYA Awards Dinner.
We had intended going back to basics for the June race, and just running it as a club race, but we have now been asked to include a National round for the Marathon, Class III & V24 championships, this will be discussed at our next committee meeting, we will start a thread to give you more information on this event soon.
Best Regards – RMYC Motorboat Committee.

A great pity but understandable - the history of the RMYC was originally based on powerboat (or motor boat) Races - now this club struggles to put on one race a year, not through its own fault I hasten to say, but thro' the generally changing atmosphere & times we all now live in.
Very sad for Bob & his committee who have tried to breath life back into racing at Poole.
Good luck for the Cancer & Needles race meeting to them all - lets hope its a good weekend !
