I think it could turn into a bit of a ding dong later on with production switching to China for some models in fact I think they are still hiring in the big "C".

It's possible this has more to do with Merc selling off Baja to Fountain thereby needing less pen pushers to sort it all out at Merc headquarters, and it is said Brunswick has been restructuring a number of their operations recently, other boat building company's have also undergone restructuring in the USA guess their all a bit nervous about recession talk and high gas prices although as Links pointed out this does not necessarily translate to less sales within their market place for all boat dealers

Finally found out the truth(thanks to world of powerbats), of why Mercury had to lay off the staff. it was because of sluggish sales because of the American Economy.

They may even have a strike
