P1 Malta
I see young Mr Wilby is set to return to the P1 big time.
Former Sunseeker driver, Andy Wilby, 30, will return to this seasons Powerboat P1 World Championship as test and reserve driver for the top US boat manufacturer Outerlimits. It provides the automotive engineer with further experience and another step towards his 2010 goal of creating a new race team to compete in P1’s top category, Evolution.
“I am extremely grateful to Outerlimits Powerboats and in particular its owner, Mike Fiore for providing this opportunity,” explains Wilby who resides in Hampshire, England. “This season I shall be helping the team in any way I can, including testing, and will be ready and prepared to step in at short notice if required. This is a first step towards creating a new UK- based team for the 2010 season, racing an Outerlimits boat.”
Wilby will work alongside team pilots, Nigel Hook and Joe Sgro in the No77 Chief -powered Lucas Oil Outerlimits SV43. Last year the former aviation engineer, whose powerboating experience dates back to the nineties, competed in Powerboat P1’s Supersport Class for the Sunseeker works team.
Pity there are only seven Evo's and seven SuperSports racing in Malta. I now understand why they are racing together, though what are the odds on Mr Tedeschi catching the Evo fleet?
