points in the National Series, to start their tally! This
will also apply to those teams running the new "Green"
engines says John Puddifoot, RYA Powerboat Racing
Manager.
New Teams, in previously un-raced boats, starting
after the cut off date, will also be eligible or the bonus
points to start off their tally.'

I spoke to Sheila at the RYA and the green engine bonus is bollocks - she didn't even mention the new team thing, and so the only bonus is from sending your entries in on time!
So no 600 point bonuses there then!!

OK,
The OFFICIAL ENTRY FORM form the RYA states in BIG RED LETTERS

This entry form will be hitting people this weekend, and will be on their website Monday ( prolly ) This is ACTUAL - not theoretical or rumour. This is FACT. Cant argue with fact.
- 200 awarded, not 600, not zero, just 200.
- Official date of entry to benefit 14th April 2006
- Points not transferable to others

This has *nothing* to do with licences. It has to do with the entry forms for the national events 2006 for, as far as I can see, ClassIII, Wibs, V24 and entry to the COWES event.

There is only one reason for the free points for registering for the season on time. So that the organising clubs ( or ORDA for 80% of this season, have some idea of the number of boats and crews they have to cater for in terms of parking, scrutineering, facilities, and in the case of Guernsey, for the Ferry crossing.
If anyone would like to come and give ORDA a hand to run their 5 events this year, feel free to contact Adam, Shirley or Dave and they will be warmly received.
Bet I get no response from that one. Have a good season everyone.

Is that the only classes the entry form is used for then?

If it works it will certainly help, I know how hard it is to plan events and cater for the right amounts.

Many of you seem to be missing the point regarding this 200point incentive!
There is nothing in PB1 2006 to say that championship points will be awarded for anything other than racing results. So how can anyone/organisation/club award points outside of our racing rules??

I'm not missing the point Will, but you clearly are. I would have thought that with your Dad's experience with race organisation you would have grasped that someone had to come up with something to get teams to put their entries in on time.
If you like you can donate your 200 points to another team...........

Incentive
Why not Give the points for entering on time but deduct them if they dont turn up & complete the race
Therefore :- Enter on time 200 + win, another 200 = 400
Enter late Nil + Win 200 = 200
Enter on time 200 , dont turn up -200 = 0
That way no one wins without entering on time !!

I certainly aint gonna bother making any last minute purchases then!!!
What you could have considered is applying financial incentives to persuade people to do things on time, and keep the racing as simple racing.
So load the entry fee by 200 (or more) kwid, but refund it back for early entries, turning up to race, etc.
That way, teams that may have legitimate reasons for not being able to enter early, or attend all races, can still race on a level playing field, albeit at a financial disadvantage.

The "points thing" wasn't decided by any club. I believe it was put forward to, and looked at by ORC members and the RYA.
.
Personally I didn't think it was that bad an idea, obviously there are those who have other ideas, better or not.
Frankly, having tried begging, pleading and not being up for bribery, I suppose this is this year's attempt.
I am sure there are better ways of doing loads of stuff, and with some of the collective experience in this forum making positive suggestions we can have a few more better seasons racing.
