XCAT ONBOARD VIDEO - Abu Dhabi Race 2
Leading the charge to the first turn boy shows how good a Doug Wright 32 is in the rough...pity we overshot the mark though (more practice needed).
Sadly Gringo's comms got damaged (thank God as he screams a lot!)

Hi Rich,
Nice vid! Looks like you both are having a ball over there.
Could I ask what camera system you guys are using as the quality is really good.
Give my regards to the Gringos and best of luck racing

GoPro??? See HERE one of the CMBA guys uses the motor sport version as it comes with the suction pad & (I think) a helmet attachment. Stick in Google & they come up over here UK at plenty of places. I don't know if that is what was used here but the GoPro produces good results for the money. I shall be getting one. Make sure you put a lanyard on it in case it comes off!! It's waterproof to 180' so it could even be used on Swipewipes!

Yep we lost his comms in the first big bounce...
We're using a lipstick mounted on top of canopy and, believe it or not, a peli and old sony handicam to act as VCR. Tape yes tape... The comms are Stilo 4 way so we take them direct to the sony as well as the feed from the lipstick. So the sony records:
The comms communications (when working)
The vhf radio
The lipstick
And we have a spare for perhaps mobile phone
This was the setup used in Honda by Dream Team TV and it does work well but becoming antiquated.
But we are going to do away with the Sony and find a PVR with a nice LCD screen to act both as recorder and provide me with the rear view as it is better than the mirrors (though I have to say I would probably be happier NOT to see the carnage behind!).

Gopro left behind by Oregon Atck9 !! 1080p built in GPS and monitor so you can see where its pointing, as well as being remote controlled !!

This one HERE Bob? looks a nice bit of kit but I can't see - unless I have missed it, a suction mount kit. It's really useful as you can move it around the boat for different shots & onto different boats. Maybe I missed it.

Worth reading the comments below the video shown (don't bother with the video). Basically it seems to say for features go for the ATCK9, for durability go GoPro. Maybe hang on a while & see what develops. I don't rate the customer service at the company that markets the ATCK9 here in the UK, I emailed them Friday asking a few questions & have not had a reply yet.

Finally got a very terse & unhelpful reply from them. I wouldn't risk buying one of their products, based on my experience & the comments in the video linked to in the above post they don't do customer service.

Based on the GPS Speed and overlay facility, Mounts, Remote control ease of use the Oregon wins hands down !!
Tragically my GoPro did not make the whole race as it fell off !!

I will stick with GoPro for now as I will need to move it to many different boats. Looked at other suction mounts but they can be big money. As I said the Oregon beats GP on features, no question, but will it last - assuming it isn't lost, & if it breaks what is the support like, based on (admittedly very limited) the evidence so far, not good. Keep us posted Bob.

Bob, do reckon this would do the trick in our setup?
http://www.flyonthewall.uk.com/32gb-...12v-p-269.html
Should give output for LCD too?
Plus I see another camera input...

Then how will we hear race control - shall I switch channels mid race and how will Bob hear anything whilst you are screaming and shouting!?
But seriously we are looking for a solid state recorder that will replace the Sony setup. This one will take 2 cameras but not sure if the frame rate/resolution is as good as now....will check out.
