2 x Merc 2,5 EFI SS 280 engines for sale

Hi,

I am selling my two Mercury 2.5 EFI SS 280 hp engines from 2002. They have Brucato PCU EFI boxes which allows detailed adjustments of trottle response, fuelcurves, etc. 15 inch midsections and CLE Sportmasters 1:1,87 gears.

I choose CLE lowerunits since they fit my Phantom 25 better. They are faster since they are slight shorter than Sportmasters.

Engines set up by Micheal Werner, a very reputable racer (several time world F1 champion) and engine builder. Powerheads rebuilt in 2007 with new rings and bearings. Top pinned pistons. Midsection and lowerunit rebuilt in 2008. New complete wireharness this summer.

I can get hold of 20 inch midsections if need. I use drag cowlings to be able to mount two engines on my Phantom. Alien cowlings can be organised if necessarry.

I am selling the two engines due to buying a single engine.

The price per engine is NOK 75,000 / GBP 7,800. If buying both, fuel pumps, trim pums and cash tanks will be included.

Cheeers,

Toffen

260?

These look like the older 2.5 260s?

Hi!

Yes, thats correct. To be able to use Brucato PCU (http://brucatosvs.com/pcu.html) you have to use 260 electrics. The engines are 2002 280 model though. Brucato PCU allows you to adjust trottle response, fuel curve each 500 rpms, etc. And the running quality and fuel consumption is better than standard 280 EFI.

So using 260 electrics is an accepted way of getting rid of the Motorola PCM as it has a fairly conservative rev limit (and very few people have the ability to modify the mapping) and the better standard CDI coil rather than the poorer performing at very high rpm inductive 280 coil. However the charging system on a 280 is far superior to the 260 CDI system and that's why I assume it's a Simon alternator kit as it adapts to the CDI flywheel and not the standard 280 arrangement. IMHO I think the Motorola PCM is actually far superior to the 260 arrangement if you have the equipment to alter the fuel curve as it also controls the ignition timing allowing a far better controlled timing map and as let's face it most people are after a "go faster recreational" setup a PCM setup is fine but I don't see any problem with the 260 system as fitted here.

Twin 2,5 EFI's

Hi!

I have very good results with this setup compared to the regular Motorola set up. Ofcourse, you have views in favour of both setups. With the PCU I have experienced better idle quality and better fuel economy. Its a common setup in US among bassboaters, and among recreational "racers" in Europe.

The reason for selling is foremost a family issue since my wife prefer a more conservative set where a) you can idle for a longer time b) you can smoke a cigarette in the boat c) which is easier to maintain and burn less fuel. The twin set up has given me lots of fun, but now its back to a single set up again. Not 100% sure what kind of engine, most likely a 350 sci (which will come with a 3rd generation lowr unit in 2011).

Hello!

Sorry for bumping this old thread.

I have an interest in buying both engines.
Are they already sold?
