Carb, preferably holley
Distributor and any other ignition bits, I'm told MSD is the nuts...

Any other bits anyone might have that they think may be of use, please get in touch!
Cheers, James

Hi James,
Keypart were really good for V8 parts and their manual covered everything.
It might be worth giving Wootner (Matt Roger) a ring one to one marine, he really is a guru on V-motors and he normally has a stash of parts

Really? I found keypart disappointingly expensive (a sierra water pump they wanted to charge me about the same as a genuine merc one)

It's a hell of an insight into how to achieve every last possible bit of horsepower out an engine but when it starts getting into adjusting squish values and such you do tend to glaze over a bit.
As you say rare as but the bloke is meant to be the god for BBCs. Possibly a little out of date though.

Just a thought James that I didn't think to mention. Have you considered just getting hold of an MPI set.
You could pick up a complete set Manifold, ECU, Harness, Injector rail and Pump for about a grand from the states and probably get a dizzy thrown in. Sounds a lot but it solves everything in one go.

Thanks so much for all the info there Kerry, that's fantastic!
The MPI option sounds like a good idea, I've just never been that keen on electonic stuff! What kinda HP gains/fuel savings would i be looking at getting from changing to injection?
When you're looking for stuff on OSO, do you tend to just post in the wanted section? I couldn't find much in the classifieds...
Cheers, James

Not sure whether you'll gain or lose hp but 502 mpi is 415hp at prop.
Fuel savings will be apparent and as a guide I once ran the Revenger alongside my old p18 with 2.4 200 from poole to bucklers and all around the solent through force 4 / 5 conditions running hard and were surprised, when refuelling for the return run, that we had used the same amount of fuel to the litre. Same story after the return just not quite as close, obviously the Revenger wasn't working quite as hard as the p18 but surprising none the less.
Other benefits of the mpi is you will gain knock sensor protection, limp home mode etc which I don't think you will by robbing the 454 electrics.
My Mpi has not let me down in close to 1000 hrs but never say never.
As far as OSO goes, why don't you bung a post a up telling them what you want to achieve and I bet you get offered all sorts of gear in no time.

Here we are I've been shopping for you. You owe me $1150 or 700 in real money or 92 litres of gin, whichever you prefer.

The MPI side is interesting, but I'm just not sure if i want to go down that route right now. I've gotta have this engine built and in by the weekend after next, and it'd be much easier for me to just buy a carb and bung it on for now seeing as i've got an inlet manifold ready to go. I can also do everything myself as the local merc dealer is very busy and already fed up with me pestering them!
For the future, I'd like to supercharge her, would the MPI system be any good for this?

Hi Steve,
I did get your message, just ran out of time to reply to it the other day and then forgot! I'll give him a bell if i need anything but i'm not planning to have anything done by anyone, more than happy to build it myself.
Thanks for the contact,
James
