Engine/transom bolts needed
Where can I get engine mounting bolts online? Nice and strong please as the ones I've just taken out are more bent than Michael Barrymore at a pool party.
Can't remember the lengths but I'll get them tomorrow

hi-strenght bolts
Here, a lot of guys using heavy engines like HO or XS are tired to use weak Mercury 1/2 ss UNF bolts with 1/2UNF self lock brass nut. So times ago, we have decided to go with grade 8 galvanized bolt / nut /washer from Caterpillar.
They rust a bit after months in salt water use, but grade 8 bolts are pretty strong. Also, they are in inche sizes, the thread used by mercury is most of the time 1/2UNF for transom bolts, the cat bolt with self lock nut available are UNC. I can tell you these GR8 bolts are reliable. The easiest way to order is to go to the nearest Caterpillar dealer, order the parts, and the day after they are in your hand.
I've made for you a PDF document for the 1/2UNC grade 8 bolt/self locking nut and washer. You only have to choose the good bolt lenght and quantity to your cat dealer.
NB: the material of the washer and nut are also grade 8 in my document.
That's not cheap, but it's a good ratio on price/quality.
Good luck....

Wasnt transom bolts one of the many commodities that your Islands very own James "captain fantastic" Larbalestier was offering a little while back?

Yeah but I'd like to have something super strong 'off the shelf' instead of something with a cut thread.

Caterpillar Bolt Prices
If my memory is good the price for 4 bolts is around 19€ include VAT without self-lock and no washer. For a complete set, I guess the price should be around 30€.
Note the 6 marks on the hexagonal head capscrew top check the good grade 8 steel you're looking for. Note also you have the 6marks on the self lock steel nut to ensure you're using a grade 8 lock nut.
