Guys i did try to explain before i wrote this i'm not trying to offend anyone, just open discussion. I am seriously looking for a P-18 for next summer, but don't tell that lot on RIBnet.

The inlet butterflys and choke solenoid on that engine look like they are off a much earlier v6, and what's going on with the wiring?

Hi daniel

Why not just go and look at the boat and make an informed decision to buy or not.

The 18 allways had a riveted screen right up untill very recently when Clive Jones started building them and made a new top deck for it.

The 21 had a riveted screen up untill about 87/88 and the 20 never had a riveted screen as it came out around 85/86.

Post a pic of the powerhead (port side) and I may be able to tell you the approximate age.

Looks 82 or older to me. It has two piece heads, they stopped using them mid to late 80's. However those heads are the old style meaning the bolts attach to the cylinder liner rather than the outer wall of the block as they do now, this makes it no newer than 82. Also looks like a verticle reed motor meaning if its a 200 then really its a 175 as they used rate them at the crank back then.

I used to have a vertical reed 175 which is why i was certian this block is older than '91 (it's an 0D serial number) because the butterflys and chock solenoid were changed on the later drop-on lid engines (which this is).

Also a '91 should be oil-injection, right? I accept this may have been intentionaly removed.

I've made Ken an offer which i would be happy to pay and can be there in 48hrs with cash. If he gets more on eBay then good for him.

All 2.4's (except the hi performance motors, Bridge Ports etc.) up to 89/90, when they stopped making them, had chrome bores and they're very durable. I not aware of any problems with certain years.

If it's three numbers we would need a letter after them to pinpoint the year. If there is just numbers there should be 6 (we hope) which would make it a pre '86 hull.

I'm sure someone will tell me if i'm wrong.

BTW It seams i was wrong about rivited screens on a P-18, sorry.

The 2 piece heads were used untill around 86 87 I think. Matt you would have had the later style 2 piece heads, shown as type 1 in the picture below. Pre 82 motors had the type 2 heads in the attached picture
