rob, why (when gav lifted is motor last weekend...fairly unsuccessfully) are you INSISTING you need a 15" offshore?
have a rethink nobby, spend your dollars on sommink else

Gav and lifting his motor is a different story for another time!
I need a 15" to get the height on the engine to get the revs up.
Gavs engine wasnt jacked up high enough as he was worried about over stressing the transom.
To run the point of the bullet level with the bottom of the transom (or the top of the notch as is the case with the a seaquel) you would have to have a 20" jacked sky high! The distance from the top of the transom to the bottom is 21"

The higher you go the more revs you gain the faster you will go.

Also less drag on the gearbox and less bow lift the higher you go.

Because the transom is 21" you would meed a lot of lift to get it level (about 9" of lift i think) which isnt going to do much for your COG and as gav pointed out to me will put excess stress on the transom at those hights.

Have you got a 15" leg then or are you going to chop and weld yours?
Why was Gavs lifting his engine un-sucsessfull it seemed to be going well to me on the saturday or did he lift it more after that?

I have all the parts from a 15" apart from a swivel bracket.
We didnt jack it up that much on the saturday for any real benefit.

i ran the gearbox bullet at 1" above keel, mrrob is right when he says that the motor would be too high with a 20", however i found that with 5.5" setback and 1" above made the boat handle like a bag of crap, way too much bowlift and it TOOK 5mph off my top end, in short i felt a lot happier with my previous setup, i also think that using a 15" mid, its gonna run shite in the rough.
not an easy answer without a lot of testing i think.

Whats the distance between the keel and the point of the bullet? about 30 inches??
The keel is not the place to measure from as the back of the boat doesnt run on the keel it runs on the notch and the point of the bullet was well below the bottom of the notch. In my opinion the engine should of been jacked up a lot more to bring the revs up to gain speed. On the saturday I didnt think it handled any different to what it did the last time we used it when we put the balistic back on.
As for running in the rough I would say prop choice is what makes the difference.
Also the more height you have the less bowlift you will get and having the 20" that high is going to give you handling problems because of increased COG hence the 15".
IMHO 15" mid is going to be the best comprimise between handling and top end performance.

Everybody is different in the set up what works for one doesn't work for another. Jackplates are great and widen the envlope slightly, but it's a weak point that you introduce.
