It would be alot thirstier though so the weight saving could be offset by the extra fuel that would need to be carried.

A well put together 150 merc would be a lot lighter and could potentially be quicker than the modern stuff. 150 mercs come in 2.0, 2.4 and 2.5 configurations too!!!

I believe the 175 was a crankshaft rated motor...
I believe the 175 was a crankshaft rated motor and so put out 150 at the prop. I thought they no longer produced a 175 after they started rating them at the prop as it effectively became the 150.
