Black Knight #4
I believe I've got Boat number 4 in the first picture. Known as 'Black Knight' and 'If Only'. I spoke to Peter and Nikki Carpenter about it, and they've confirmed it. I hadnt got far with the history as I thought it was called an Elva not Ilver.
She was in a skip in Wales in not very good condition, painted bright yellow. Never had an inboard fitted from what I can see.
I'm halfway through restoring her, should have her finished by this summer, will be painted in the same colours as in the picture with #4 on her.
If anyone has any pictures of her, I would really appreciate if you could forward them, as I'd really like to build up the history of her.
Cheers,
George

So you think those are old Water Ski Racing Photos?
New to the thread. Enjoy some really old British and European Ski Race photos from the 1970s. See if you can put names, places, dates to faces, races and boats.
PAUL
Note....none of this hands behind back wrapped skiing back then! We were tough with strong backs forged through skiing all through winter in the wilds of the North Sea!

Hello Paul!
I really enjoy your classic pictures!!
Especially because there are lots of Fletchers :-)
I run a " Fletcher enthusiast website " for Fletcher owners and i am really
interested in Fletchers racing history, because its hard to find something on the web :-(
I want to ask you if i can get your permission to share your pics with our " Fletcher-community " ?
Best regards
Andi

Hello Andi
No problem as long as your share the credit...
and if you are into Fletchers.....you will no doubt also recognise the Glastron CV21 in one of the pictures, supplied by Fletcher. Norman had the Glastron agency in UK.
I may have lots of other Fletcher photographs somewhere.
Thanks and regards
PAUL

A bit after my time LOL!
I moved to Hong Kong in 1980 and whilst became HK champ for 5 years in its annual round the island ski race, did not do much more competitively except the World Champs in Spain in 1985, with Terry Twigg driving me in his boat.
Have skied twice since!!
My father, Ray Berriman, carried on in the Water Ski administration and judging and in 2005 (after his passing in 2003), the World team trophy at the World Champs was named after him.
My photos of the 1970s are very few and far between, with most shown above here. Like you, I was skiing most of the time!

I had a look but probably the only ones I have of Boat 711 are those of Stephen at the 1985 World Champs in Spain in this Australian made video.
May give you a clue.
If you look carefully you might see me skiing (for Hong Kong) in the races, but much further back...around 15/16th !!
May have more in my big box of old print photos, but not scanned or digital yet. If I get chance I will have a look.
