yep there was hundreds of people on it there would have been so many injuries/deaths from the start of the fire it took about 30-60 minutes to really take hold i was on there with the other half after the racing

Very bad news
I could see the smoke this morning from the house at around 7.15am, decided to go and have a look before work the flames were 80-100ft high.
There was no way that they could have contained the fire once it had spread.
Really hope they re-build it.

Funny how these old piers always catch fire when the tide is out making it difficult for the fire brigade to get water

Yes all my family were out there on the pier yesterday, thank god it didnt happen then, and to date no reported casualties, hope it remains so. My sympathy to the town council, after hosting such a successfull event at the weekend.
Really sad.

I went down on the way to work this morning too! was watching from the slipway, the fire brigade had a massive pump at marine lake and a hose that was about a foot in diameter running all the way along the prom to the pier!!
I got some picture on me phone will post them tomorrow

how would you like it you had a business on the sea front i think you would be a bit worried what would happen for the rest of the summer so before you start with the stupid remarks have a thaught for all the people who have spent time in weston and the busineses which reliy on the holiday trade dont you think its hard enough with the state of the economy at the moment without the focal point of weston burning to the ground
