Hi all,
I've trimmed the edges of the tabs to size and cut all the hinge notches, also prepared the rest of the bushes for the transom mounting plates. I am now starting to make the tooling for the cylinder mounting and reinforcement which will be bonded to the top face of the tab.

Hi All,
Cheetah is now at Hamble point and it has rained almost continually..... i have spent many hours inside the cover cutting loads of lightning and ventilation holes, lots of these have been between the cockpit floor and the fuel tank compartment i have also cut the slots in the trim tab mounting plates.

Cheetah gets her engine bay smoothed out. After a lot of grinding filling and painting i should finish up with a nice bright red smooth engine bay but i have got an awful long way to go.

I wondered how long it would take..... The filler and paint are being used as a guide to find the low spots so 95% of the filler will be removed along with the high spots of the original layup, so it will in fact be a lot lighter than when i started.

V24 BatBoat
This is slightly off topic but I would like your input about propeller modification. We have fitted a V24 Batboat with a Bravo 3 drive and I added a nosecone. Most of these hulls are fitted with the Volvo DPX drive and use E series propellers. I feel the large round ear of the Mercury front propeller is causing alot of drag and hurting top speed. I was thinking of making a pattern of the Volvo E series front prop ear and modifying the Mercury prop to that, since it is more proven to work. Our current efficiency is less than 2 percent slip but the top speed is 71 mph. I can handle more engine rpm but would like to see the slip numbers in a more normal range. What are your thoughts on copying the Volvo ear or should I just reduce blade area similar to what you have done. Thank you for all the time you spend displaying and explaining your projects, I have enjoyed them.

Hi Boat1,
As you are probably aware the Bravo 3 is designed for heavy boats with maximum speed in the mid 60's so the blade area is way too big for a high performance boat. Depending on how many rpm's you have left in the engine i think it may be necessary to go up in pitch by a couple of inches before you start reducing blade area. As a starting point i would reduce the blade area by 20% on both props leaving the diameter the same removing most of the area from the bulbous front section. As you probably know the Volvo props are very unequal on blade area as standard and i have removed 35% of the blade area of the front prop with very good results. interesting project keep us informed of your progress, i am a huge bat boat fan.
I am currently drooling over a B28 fitted with an Ilmor 725 and indy drive that is for sale in the states.
All The best
Peter

Hi All,
Picked up the first of Cheetah's new carbon fibre engine covers from Nick and Ben at Carbon Weezel, these have been moulded in one piece to prevent water getting into the injector pockets, now i have drilled and trimmed them they will be temporarily mounted to the engines so that i can trim the front edge to match up with the carbon header tank cover. She is also getting carbon ECU covers and oil filter covers all of which the weave has been handed one set left hand one set right hand which will also match the new carbon fibre engine hatch. Should look real nice ewhen they are all sanded and lacquered plus there is also a very substantial weight saving.

Thank you for the input. I will start on rear prop and let you know the results. I'm looking to gain 9 mph which I know is optimistic but a person has to have goals. Once we get the mechanicals sorted out maybe I will start a before and after thread on this boat. We have completely re-rigged the boat and installed some interesting features. It is a promotional boat for Breast Cancer Awareness and mostly designed to be an attention grabber. Many LED lights, and the dash has been fitted with green carbon fiber panels to go with the Camaro Synergy Green paint. It originally was the Mercury Racing Scorpion/Armada boat. Seems the BatBoat is much more popular on your side of the pond. Thanks again!

Hi All,
Just finished reshaping and pitching up Cheetah's propellors, hopefully they will now absorb the extra power. I made a mould of the first reshaped blade then fashioned all the other blades using the mould as a template.

Hi All,
I have decided to modify the air intakes which have now been straight line sanded to remove all the imperfections and most of the original gelcoat these have now been delivered to Carbon Weezel who are going to apply a decorative top weave which will then be lacquered and polished, they also made me a rectangular box which i have cut to shape to house some extra instrumentation so Carolyn has now got something to look at as well. (as well as my hubby) Spent today sanding the engine bay, have just applied the first full undercoat....
