Steve North ended up with two Stapleys - I bought one from him and raced it as Deja Vu for one year (87?). The other one he was planning to chop around, widen and lengthen. Don't know what happened to that.
Thinking of un-known Stapleys - what happened to the last cat built that never raced (Nationals anyway) with the stepped deck?

It was built for Trevor Grout. I saw it in '91 being tested on the Medway by John. I last saw it in John's front garden in Dartford a few years ago.

Heynes for Toyota. Was this Kleenrite?
Apart from rotting away, whatever happened to all the old Stapleys. Puss-C-Foot, Puss-C-Cat etc etc?

They all rotted away!
Those things were built a long time ago,
The thing that keeps this forum going is that SB built his boats in glass!!!

No. It was on the Medway. The course the Kent Boat & Ski Club used to use was from Chatham Lock Entrance, out around the many Islands back along by Kingsnorth Power Station and back down to the Lock entrance.
Do you remember Dave Lees from Thornton Heath? He had a 21' Ring 3C rig called "Quick Erections". UKOBA made him cover the name up so then it became Quick Elections. Anyway he had a Winner / Stapley like Del's, but in white.

Was that the race where Goldstar submarined and a boat ended up on the flood defence???? My dad has some good memories of that event. Like the time he and the other scrutineers were getting out of one door on his camper, and some scouser were getting in via another!!!!!

Ah yes. It's all coming back to me now. The Scrutineers hired a diesel transit mini-bus. It was filled up Before the start of the journey. According to the fuel gauge they had enough fuel to make the return journey. They ran out of fuel approx 5 miles from home at 2 am. I had to go and find
a) a can for the fuel,
b) a garage that was open and
c) the broken down bus on the A2.
Its a good job that the transit 2.5Di is self-bleeding. I was not over impressed. Mind you, dad probably thought it was payback time from when i've broken down in the early hours and he's had to get me....

Was at Powerboat Museum's 20th Anniversary today, and guess what they've got on display. That's right C-71. Apparently, after 'Uncle Ray' died, John gave up or sold the rights to Stapley. He gave all trophies and any race stuff to the museum. He also said that if the museum didn't take the boat, he was going to burn it!
